The US President warned the UK would be at the back of the queue for a trade deal with America if it quit Brussels.
But his threat provoked outrage and scorn from pro-Brexit campaigners, who dismissed it as yet another scaremongering ploy from the pro-EU lobby.
Mr Obama, who will no longer be in office when decisions on a trade deal are made, delivered a lecture to the British people on why he thinks it is in the UKs, Americas and the worlds best interests for Britain to vote to stay in the EU on June 23.
He weighed into the debate despite being warned by a host of anti-EU campaigners to butt out of our referendum battle.
He said there could be a US-UK trade agreement down the line but warned: Its not going to happen any time soon, because our focus is on negotiating with a big bloc, the EU. The UK is going to be in the back of the queue.
The claim, made during a joint news conference with David Cameron, angered Leave campaigners.
Tory Justice Minister Dominic Raab said Mr Obama had made a pretty cynical intervention.
He added: Weve got a lame duck president doing an old friend a favour for purely political reasons and taking a few unnecessary risks, being a bit irresponsible with the special relationship between our two countries.

No that’s not what I mean. But to your question, how far west do you have to be to be called a westerner? West of the Mississippi, west of the prime meridian, west of Berlin or west of Gaza? I’m just saying that I don’t think queue is a frequent use in Obama’s vocabulary.
I was under the impression that the “east” started generally where the Iron Curtain began; the delineation between First World and Second World (communist bloc). Hence the “Islamic”-dominated world being the “Middle East” and all that.
Regarding the Churchill bust, Trump has a wonderful opportunity while Obama’said arrogant comments are fresh. He should promise on day one of his administration to request the bust be RETURNED to its rightful place in the Oval Office.
The Herpes President
That about covers it!
Unfortunately, this country’s citizens don’t have a strong enough Valtrex to withstand his effects.
Lame threat from the lame duck.
I can’t imagine a worse ambassador to the UK than this jackass.
When I read that he plans to stay in DC after the election.....ermehgerd!
I remember with the approach of Y2K, there was talk of Clinton exploiting a possible crisis to declare martial law and suspend the 2000 elections. Many on the left feared Bush trying to stick around for a third term. Certainly, many of these rumors are nothing more than inflammatory alarmism but I will say this about Obama and his coterie:
I think that IF he/they thought they could get away with exploiting some sort of crisis to try and justify a third term, they would not hesitate to do so. I'm not saying they will, or that there are plans in place to do so, merely that if the opportunity presented itself, and if they felt they could succeed in getting away with it, there would be no hesitation whatsoever in attempting to hold on to the reigns of power in 2017 and beyond.
Obama’s getting a bit “uppity”,isn’t he? :-)
He actually thinks the Brits care about his opinions on European affairs.
.
What a petulant little twit! "If ya'll don't do what I tell you, I'm gonna put ya'll to the back of the bus".
The thing is I think they do and that’s why this will be so damning and damaging to him and might actually wake the Brits the #### up to obummer and another dem following him for four more years.
The British (who are westeners) don’t ‘line up’, they form a ‘queue’. Go over there and tell them to line up and watch their faces.
Maybe he would go after Timor-Leste (East Timor) if he had heard of it. It is a Catholic nation that had the temerity to vote for independence from Muslim Indonesia.
It was amazing to see Obama-loving CINO Boris Johnson (who surprisingly supports leaving the EU) and the small animal he wears on his head attack Obama over this.
Since WHEN does Obama says things like "the United Kingdom will be at the back of the queue"? That's extremely british sounding slang. The only time I even hear "queue" used by Americans is when someone is referencing their Netflix selections.
Shades of when Ashton Carter supposedly posted on Twitter that he was "very honoured and happy" to be appointed Defense Secretary.
He obviously said it for their benefit. They got a first hand taste of what an a-hole he is. It’s highly improper for a foreign head of state to meddle in an internal matter such as this.
