Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.

The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!

It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.

Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.

President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.

Yup, if Trump had been treated like any of the other candidates by the MSM and by HIS OWN PARTY, he’d be winning overwhelmingly.

Cruz’s dirty politics started with the very first state, actually. Voter intimidation mailers then lying about Carson leaving the race showed that he was hardly the most conservative, most Christian candidate ever. At that point he seemed to change personality, with his blaming Trump for everything, including Brussels, and showing himself to instead be the dirtiest politician ever.

Its a mixed bag with Cruz. Some show Clinton, some say Cruz.

Sanders beats both Trump and Cruz in these pre-convention polls.

I’ll tell you what is pure gold for the Dems: Trump’s continued feeding into the “Republicans hate women” storyline, be it true or not. He constantly is feeding into that. Combine that with a complete lack of any consistancy in regards to MANY possitions, ranging from homosexual marriage, to abortion, to universal healthcare, to property rights...

He’s a disaster.

As far as Cruz’s ability to craft a message the country as a whole will adopt, I believe its quite clear his policy stances on lower taxes, building the wall, his foreign policy initiatives, his promise to repeal the mess of Obamacare, to return the government to be in compliance with the Constitution, all resonate with Americans. Tack on a few Supreme Court appointments, and it really makes the case.

Conservatism wins. It really does. We just never get to try it.

The GOPe has had a solid hold of the party for so long, we never get to attempt conservatism.

As mentioned before, we have made it past that point. We can get a conservative on the ticket. Cruz CAN and WILL win, we have to give him the chance to do so.

It is nothing but campaign rhetoric to suggest otherwise.

In all honesty, I believe the RATs are completely screwed regardless of who we nominate. Given that, why not pursue a solid conservative with a proven track record?

Sorry, I wish what you said was true, but it does not seem to be the way you say it is in the Northeast. The polls you mention do not say anything like you think they do when compared to individual swing states I mentioned. Cruz is polling lower than Kasich here. Same is true in Florida.

Most folks who are in the middle, the ones the republican need to draw into the fold (around 6 to 7 million votes) see him as unprincipled. I have heard that on numerous occasions and the arguments made as to why he appears that way are not entirely without basis. He has run a very hard campaign, but one not entirely free of deceit.

Now I have to mention this, and I do know a fair number of fairly strong supporters of Cruz. You say he is conservative. He may well be, and I hope he is. But the perception here in the northeast is that he is driven by a self centered ambition, not duty. I know the Cruz folks cannot conceive of this, but that is how a lot of folks view him, especially veterans (I know a few of those)

Of course I could be wrong and we will see on the 19th and the 26th. If Cruz does well in the northeast then you may well be right; we will see. I suppose there is not much more to say about it until that vote is in, it will serve as a reality check to both Cruz supporters and Trump supporters.

I suppose we should all get back on this topic sometimes towards the end of this month.

When you consider how much stronger the #neverTrump sentiment is in 2016, than was the #neverObama sentiment in 2008 or 2012, the mind boggles! And I mean among so-called Republicans and so-called conservatives! I mean even here on FR!

I am a Trump supporter, but I’ll swear on a stack of Bibles that if Trump/Cruz roles were reversed right now, and Cruz had a clear shot at 1237, and would be assured of claiming the nomination by Trump dropping out, I would be calling for him to do so.

It is very perplexing to me that Cruz and his supporters, even here on FR, seem completely unwilling to even consider the possibility that Cruz conceding now may be the right thing to do.

I guess they are so blinded by their contempt for Trump that they would be OK with Clinton. What a shame.

Yes, Wisconsin would likely be well out of reach for either Cruz or Trump in November.

What I found most interesting about that map was that Trump’s half was the rural half that will vote Republican in November, while Cruz won the urban/suburban half, which goes to the Democrats.

This seems to support Jim’s point that Cruz, although a conservative himself, is benefiting from (being used by) moderate (liberal) GOPe party operatives.

This is exactly why the fabled Cruz superior ground game will not translate into a Cruz win in any 2nd, 3rd or 4th ballots. These delegates are not Cruz loyalists, but rather GOPe loyalists who are taking advantage of Cruz and his naive supporters.

Cruz needs to drop out quickly before enabling the GOPe to plant any more of their delegates, who are Cruz-in-name-only.

A very populist candidate was running whom was young, exciting (misplaced, but still exciting) and a minority. 2. Both times against older, crusty white guys whom completely made the base unexcited or worse, irritated because yet another establishment candidate was put up. Won't happen this time. Now the roles are reversed. 1. Boring, same old politician, one being a socialist the other HILLARY CLINTON. 2. Ted Cruz is EXCITING. The base would LOVE for a rock solid conservative to get in there. What happened the last time a conservative ran? A RESOUNDING victory! The following election? Just about a clean sweep. Had it not been but for about 3000 votes or so, it would have been. Ted Cruz WILL provide that level of excitement as the nominee, and WILL provide that level of victory in the general. Count. On. I love that Trump fights back. It’s about time a Republican did. When someone lies about him or cheats him, he calls them a liar or cheater. Then the next day there is a chorus of “Trump calls people names instead of talking about the important issues!, Trump doesn’t want to play by the rules! Trump is a complainer!, It’s not Presidential!, Trump is afraid of Megan Kelly! Trump is inciting violence!

Is he supposed to just take whatever gets thrown at him with no rebuttal, like GWB, McCain, or Romney?
