Establishment Republicans are looking to retired senator Tom Coburn or retired Texas governor Rick Perry as possible third-party options if they cant stop Donald Trump at a brokered convention in Cleveland.
Neoconservative pundit Bill Kristol, son of Irving, has been one of the leading forces trying to broker the convention to throw out the will of the people if Donald Trump fails to make it to 1,237 delegates before July. But even if Trump reaches 1,237, Kristol and the gang are considering running a third-party candidate against him to split the vote, ensure that Hillary Clinton wins, and keep control of the party that is slipping out of their grasp.
The New York Times reported Saturday:
The names of a few well-known conservatives have been offered up in recent days as potential third-party standard-bearers, and William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, has circulated a memo to a small number of conservative allies detailing the process by which an independent candidate could get on general-election ballots across the country.
Among the recruits under discussion are Tom Coburn, a former Oklahoma senator who has told associates that he would be open to running, and Rick Perry, the former Texas governor who was suggested as a possible third-party candidate at a meeting of conservative activists on Thursday in Washington.
Clinton would be a better choice for the establishment Republicans, who can still fundraise off of their opposition to her. Clinton would also presumably give them more establishment-friendly policies than Trump, who is looking to push economic policies that benefit the middle and lower classes and small businesses.

Yeah that’s it just give the democrats the Presidency!
I’d vote for Coburn.
No, it is all about losing the White House and keeping control of Congress.
I've seen posters come and go over these many years. I've seen the doers, the contributors, the workers......as well as the complainers, the easily-offended, the nit-pickers and the perpetual victims.
I appreciate your daily work on this interesting caucus. Tonight was not the first time your neat little logo reminded me to vote before I turn in for the night.
Good work and many thanks for what you do.
Leni
Thank you for your nice thoughts Leni.
I know that others Contribute too, but my comments on the Free Republican Caucus stand. It’s a labor of love, and if people don’t want to participate, they can ignore it.
Seeing those icons on the forum is not that unbearable. In time they will go away, and folks will forget they ever appeared here.
You have contributed a lot too Leni. We know don’t we...
All the best... (very nice comments)
I don’t think winning is their goal. They want to dilute the republican vote so Hillary can win.
Kristol is a neo-con propagandist that wants unlimited open borders ,traitorous trade deals, and war with Russia , Syria, and Iran ...he should just go ahead and join the DIMs and be done with it already
Naw he was never somebody. Simply a legend in his own mind.
Wasn’t his father a Trotskyite? I don’t think the apple falls far from the tree
Bill Kristol is desolving into TOTAL IRRELEVANCE ... AND HE KNOWS IT!
He really does look like an older version of that rump wrangler Heath Ledger played.
“Politics ain’t cornhole.”
In his youth, then a neo con. Bill Kristol is a war monger, but probably has no blood relation recently who has served. Most in politics haven’t but they feel quite free to send others to do their dirty work.
A certain Lindsey Graham is nodding his head in agreement, and muttering ‘Tell me about it!”.
Maybe that logo has been adopted as his ‘brand’ or new Avatar. It’s meaning is now symbolic vs informative. Just a guess.
Much appreciated your Leeness....
It’s a nice logo, understated, small, keep it up.
If you guys really have a problem with it, I suggest you contact the moderators. Maybe they’ll agree with you that an inoffensive graphic should be banned from these threads. But I doubt it.
Just proves that they never stopped being liberals.
