Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Friday that Donald J. Trump bore responsibility for creating an environment that encourages violence at his events.
Speaking to reporters at a local Republican dinner outside Chicago, where Mr. Trump had just canceled a rally amid fierce confrontations between his supporters and protesters, Mr. Cruz began by saying that the protesters who took violence into their own hands were responsible for the episode.
But in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top, Mr. Cruz continued. And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
Mr. Cruz invoked the protests and violent police run-ins at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and predicted that future skirmishes were likely.
When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates, Mr. Cruz said. And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.

Stay classy, Trump CDSer!
I’m wondering whether this is a troll theme. We’ve got disruptive posters with a pious name and some kind of pious tag line. See if I’m right.
“Still waiting for your very very impressive resume”
____________________________________________________
LOL...you chuckleheads cram me up!
I would never put personal information out on this site...including a resume’...I notice your resume’ was not attached Little Andy...BTW, nice moniker, so apropos for a Trump acolyte! ;-)
There are too many nuts on FR who own guns! Oh, nice pic of the kitten held up by the pistol, Mr. Wiskers! Meoww!!!
So, you boys have “PhDs in the hard sciences”...are those degrees from Crispin or Old Orchard? Meoww!!!
Suffice to say that my degrees and educational experiences would compare favorably to any on this forum with the highest of educational pedigree...oh, and BTW, they far surpass those of the Donald!
Are you serious?
Cruz is sounding more like the the Left and Obama all the time. After all isnt it Americas fault that Americas enemies hate her and that things like 9-11 happened?
Sadness.
This is exactly the sort of intelligent, reasoned, thought-out response that I expected from a Trump supporter. Well done.
“This may well seal the nomination for Trump
Ted exposed himself as part of the appeasement, GOPe, anything-to-win crowd.”
You are so right! My neighbor friends who were Cruz supporters are no longer voting for Cruz. They learned about his ties to Bush, then saw him call Trump supporters
“low information voters”, and now his blaming Trump for violence from the left!
And so we saw Donald try to go to speak to thousands of his supporters in Chicago, while Ted Cruz was at two little Fundraiser events put on by the RNC. After all, Cruz needs money from the big RNC donors!!
When you get that ballot, fold it 8 ways and then I'm pretty sure you know what to do with it from there.
It seems cruz was posturing for this job years ago and was fooling the people into thinking he was anti establishment.
Bush administration
Cruz joined the George W. Bush presidential campaign in 1999 as a domestic policy adviser, advising then-Governor George W. Bush on a wide range of policy and legal matters, including civil justice, criminal justice, constitutional law, immigration, and government reform.
Cruz assisted in assembling the Bush legal team, devising strategy, and drafting pleadings for filing with the Supreme Court of Florida and U.S. Supreme Court, in the case Bush v. Gore, during the 2000 Florida presidential recounts, leading to two wins for the Bush team. Cruz recruited future Chief Justice John Roberts and noted attorney Mike Carvin to the Bush legal team.
Typical of the Trump CDSers on this thread, you are carefully avoiding Trump’s repeated statements that encouraged and condoned physically assaulting protesters. I can understand why you avoid it, because it is indefensible.
The real question is why did all those protesters turn up to protest Trump...they must not like the Donald for something?
“New York Times.
Just saying.
The single most influential leftist newspaper, on the entire planet.”
Doesn’t matter who wrote the article.....Cruz said it! Shame on him.
Congratulations on moving into bed with Soros and Sanders and BlackLivesMatter. You truly should be ashamed, but I am glad Trump has been the force to push all you GOPe types out into the open. Always helps to know the players. Clearly Cruz is on that team as well.
And, pal, YOU are the one reaping what you sow. Cowardice, betrayal, condemning America to third class status-—that’s your legacy, not Trump’s.
Cruz is using the same leftist lines that the media is against Trump on this.
This is the same thing as when the media and the left say America had 9/11 coming
Cruz is justifying violence and the marxists brown-shirts shutting down of free speech by blaming Trump not the perpetrators = the left.
Perpetrator in 9/11 = Islam
Perpetrator last night = the Left
Cruz and the media blame the victims Trump , us , and America and exonerate the criminal perpetrators
I already cast my ballot the other day--for Ted Cruz. There are several thousand people I would vote for ahead of Trump.
Cruz supporters are the absolute worst kind of people. Liars.
Trump said that about a protester that was beating up on Trump supporters. I posted the video, everyone can look at the video and see you are lying. Yeah there was one single incedent of an 78 year old Trump supporter throwing the first punch ONE SINGLE INCEDENT. You deserve Cruz.
Please explain the common ground between those who 1) Want to be left alone to support their families and peacefully gather with like minded folks and 2) The FSA who expects to live effort free and silence me if I disagree, including disrupting those meetings of like minded folks.
We say no, and WE'RE being divisive???
Please!
"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody,
and I wouldn't lose any voters, okay? It's like incredible."
“The real question is why did all those protesters turn up to protest Trump...they must not like the Donald for something?”
Because they share your values.
