Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) on Friday praised Donald Trump for his last-minute decision to skip the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). CPAC organizers announced Friday that the GOP presidential front-runner had dropped out of his commitment to speak at the conference on Saturday morning.

The real estate mogul's campaign issued a statement shortly after saying he would instead be campaigning in Kansas and Florida.

“Because of this, he will not be able to speak at CPAC as he has done for many consecutive years,” the statement read. “Mr. Trump would like to thank Matt Schlapp and all of the executives at CPAC and looks forward to returning to next year, hopefully as President of the United States.” Trump has been heavily criticized by many Republicans, and some speakers at the gathering took the opportunity take shots at the front-runner.

Trump could win 4 tomorrow, with Kansas probably being the most questionable. Then 2 more, almost certainly, next Tuesday. (Michigan & Mississippi. Then 3 out of 4, March 15, including Florida, North Carolina, & Illinois (lot’s of delegates there!) I suspect Kasich will win Ohio. In NC, a lot will depend on where the Carson voters go, but I have to believe many are PO’d at Cruz.

All in all, that’s a lot of momentum for Trump, and none for Cruz & Rubio.

BTW, can someone explain to me how North Carolina (pop. 10,042,802) gets 72 delegates and Illinois (pop. 12,859,995) gets 69??? More Pubs in NC?

Does IL have pub congress critters? They award more delegates to states that are more reliable.

Contrast that with the mental masturbation occurring at CPAC.

No brainer what the right thing to do was in this case.

Newt’s nascent endorsement will help counter-balance Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid’s support of Trump.

Newt would not make a good chief of staff. newt is an idea person not a work work person. His best role is as an adviser or press secretary.

Newt was Speaker of the House he will be a fine Chief of Staff. Personally I would tap him for SOS as I think he’s tailor made for it.

Newt was tailored made for the presidency........but, after all, he posed for a photo-op with Pelosi, he has been married three times and he was waaaaaaaaaay to negative on Romney. (I’d love to know the Trump supporters who were just appalled over the thought of Newt getting the nomination.)

Big-government central-planners telling me I cannot buy and sell whatever I want anywhere in the world without being taxed are NOT conservative.

Do you include hiring in that? Should you be able to bring in as many foreign workers as you can afford and pay them whatever they'll accept? Ten cents an hour, perhaps?

Do you feel no loyalty or obligation to your fellow Americans?

I'm not going to rehash the 2012 primary. Newt was tested and found wanting.
