Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

You know the article is fine as far as it goes. But my wife and I have attended the March for Life with kids and grandkids in tow on numerous occasions over the decades and never once saw Donald Trump. I did meet and see politicians like Scott Walker, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee etc. but no Donald Trump ever. Does that say anything? You tell me.

I am sure. Most elected officials do. Obama the teleprompter in chief is the worst of them.

I am looking carefully — all the races like gold — looks like the hair could be, uh, a weave — yep, she is a multicultural.

You are correct theoretically but it is very difficult to demand the woman give birth to the rapists baby. It is remarkable that there are many women who have the strength and belief system to do just that. My feeling is that there is a special place in heaven for those women.

My problem with Trump is his recent come to Jesus meetings with abortion, guns and illegal immigrants. I mean his about face on these issues is a damn miracle.

So many holier than thou comments. The man states that he changed his opinion, gives multiple reasons why but he still ain’t Ted Cruz so he’s just not good enough.

[Trump is being realistic.]

Why do Christians accept a non-Christian position, rather than voicing the TRUTH to a candidate who is wrong on the position.

We are beyond a voting for the lesser two evils.
Evil is evil, there is no lesser evil.

‘Why should a baby be murdered when it comes to rape or incest?’

Shouldn’t. It’s a canard. A politically correct position. It enables the rapist and further traumatized the rape victim

Saving the life of the mother. Very rare to begin with. In many cases the infant is viable outside the womb.

In a true case of the mother’s life being at risk if the non viable/ too young fetus will die anyway, I’d like to be presented with such a case.

[The inner STRENGTH it would take I do not believe I would have that kind of strength!!]

It is not about you, it is about GOD’S CREATION. GOD gives INNER STRENGTH to face any battle. It is a terrible thing to be raped, but it is more terrible to terminate an innocent life.

“That deal can’t be any worse than the one your conservative GOP just made, “

I only know of TWO “conservative” Senators - AND I define that as LIMITED G’ment. In other words start with elimination of the Education Dept., and continue until we eliminate the DOE, and IRS.

In the House there may be as many as Twenty Five House members who meat this standard.

On the other hand all of you Perror / Trumpkins need to explain who the Donal will select for the Supreme Court.

I am willing to assume you personally are against the Second Amendment and are fully pro Abortion. Just following you asinine example of throwing dump-ass accusations around

I appreciate this editorial from Donald Trump. I know some question whether or not he actually penned it, but the point is, he released this piece as representative of his views - what he believes. Do you really think Trump didn’t approve this piece before releasing it? So, I don’t fault him for utilizing a writer (if he even did so - it’s all speculation).

Isn’t the most important thing what the piece says? Of course it is.

One of the points he made that I thought was excellent is the following:

“The Supreme Court in 1973 based its decision on imagining rights and liberties in the Constitution that are nowhere to be found. Even if we take the court at its word, that abortion is a matter of privacy, we should then extend the argument to the logical conclusion that private funds, then, should subsidize this choice rather than the half billion dollars given to abortion providers every year by Congress. Public funding of abortion providers is an insult to people of conscience at the least and an affront to good governance at best.”

Absolutely correct, almost profound in its simplicity. If Mr Trump continues to express his views in this manner, I think it will go a long way to helping those of us who want to make a decision in who to support for president.

I realize Trump has past baggage when it comes to true conservatism, and, if he wants broad support among conservatives, he will need to address some of those past political expressions he has made that cause some of us to have ambivalence what it comes to whole hearted support.

Anyway, I liked his clearing up of his views on the pro-life issue. I liked his view of how the federal government has no business involving taxpayer money in a so-called “privacy” issue that the SCOTUS dreamed up, and how the whole question should be left up to the states. I liked how his presentation of the whole issue is easy to understand - in other words, he knows how to communicate.

Trump is talking about ending the culture of death. The acceptance of abortion as a solution to anything is part of the culture. Read what he's saying. We need to end that culture of death, not just fight abortion.

I'm the most pro-life person I know. We won the fight. We got defeated by judges playing the role of Satan. That's the reality. What Trump is saying gets to the bottom of the problem....and it's cultural. Change that, or nothing changes.

“Well in that case why not vote for Bush III ?”

Because Bush is zero percent what any of us want. Can’t wait for his op-ed on Terry Shiavo and the sanctity of life.”

So how is Trum different on the above subject?

And the Trump favors the KELO Supreme Court decision. If you are a small business owner whose store is in a location that someone like Trump cad rebuild into a hotel / casino. You loose your land with MAYBE some compensation.

I wonder who wrote the op-ed also. But Trump signed on. Who else of the candidates did this?

[We got defeated by judges playing the role of Satan. That’s the reality.]

We got defeated by ‘pro-life’ politicians who believe in abortions for rape, incest, and to protect the life of a mother who continually vote to fund Planned Parenthood and by voters who adhere to the ‘lesser of two evils’ philosophy.

Judges are seated by politicians who are elected by the people. We all will be judged on our votes.

Face it, abortion is legal because it funds campaign coffers.
