Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.
Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

...except yesterday, I saw gripes that Trump said nothing on the Roe v Wade anniversary.
Today, he has a published piece and there are complaints.
Reminds me of “we sang songs to you and you didn’t dance, we recited a dirge and you didn’t mourn.”
Ronald Reagan used to say: Trust but verify.
This whole thing beats anything I have ever seen.
Well, I do remember something similar.
Back in 2008, when the dems were stumping for Obama.
Same wild eyes and screaming over how he was going to really change things and make America better through his program of hope and change.
Did Reagan ever use a speechwriter?
“[I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk]”
Let me first say that I have always been pro life, and was very active in the pro life movement back in the eighties and nineties. Even to the extent of being invited to testify before congress (Congressman Bob Smith).
However, regarding the exceptions mentioned, I don’t consider them unreasonable with the exception of “incest”, and the fact is that most incest is also rape (father/ daughter).
Regarding the life of the mother, where it’s a very noble thing to give your life for another, it’s not so noble to force someone to do so. We, along with every other animal were endowed (and I would assume by our Creator) with the instinct of self preservation.
Regarding rape... Self defense is not murder, and has always been recognized as a fundamental right. A woman has a right to protect herself if she is being assaulted, even to the extent of deadly force. It’s not unreasonable in a situation where a rape results in a pregnancy to view the pregnancy as a continuation of the rape. Indeed, when he forced himself inside her, he left part of himself behind. Again, it may be a very noble thing to carry the child to term, but not so noble to force her to do so.
And you’re kidding yourself if you think 2% of such mid-campaign op eds are actually penned by the candidates. Speech writers and ghost writers are understood and assumed in politics and the celebrity world.
Lots of people write differently than how they speak.
Myself for instance.
Wow, just wow. I’m impressed. I know a lot of pro abortion people will not like to see this, but he’s speaking truth to the fooled people.
I grew up with girls and women who for some reason outside of their own experience revered “a woman’s right to choose” as if it was real. It was heavy handed in every magazine for women, even fashion mags. No one spoke of tiny babies with beating hearts. We were lied to.
Some of those female libs might be clicked off to Trump with this editorial, but he doesn’t care. I am very impressed. As a lot of you know, I took someone’s unwanted embryo and gave birth to it. It was the beginnings of a wonderful person, not just a microscopic clump of cells, just as the dawn is an unstoppable beginning of a full day.
It’s a nice sentiment, but all he is saying is that taxpayers shouldn’t pay for abortion providers.
Nothing in there about making repeal of Roe v. Wade a litmus test for Federal Judges.
No promises. Just sentiments.
I remember some old movies where the father was asked by the doctor which life he wanted to save the infant’s or the mothers. These things aren’t easy.
On a sunny day, Trump says “the sky is blue”. Pro-Cruz Freepers spend all day arguing its not.
If a 14yr old girl is impregnated by her father, or gang raped by a pack of Jihadis, would you use the force of law to compel her to carry that baby to birth?
If it was all up to you?
And would it matter if it was your daughter and she BEGGED you to allow an abortion?
If he starts TALKING like this--in depth and with passion, in interviews, at rallies, and in debates--that would be a good start.
Yes.
[However, regarding the exceptions mentioned, I do not consider them unreasonable with the exception of “incest”, and the fact is that most incest is also rape (father/ daughter).

WHO has give you the authority to determine right or wrong?
Isaiah 29:16
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”?
[If it was all up to you? And would it matter if it was your daughter and she BEGGED you to allow an abortion?]
It is not up to me. The question is: WHO has give you the authority to determine right or wrong?

Totally agree. The so-called rape-incest exception garbage is a major red flag that principle had nothing to do with Trump’s pro-life positioning. If it’s OK to kill a human being for no reason other than who the father is, how is that not validating murder, the unjustified, unexcused, intentional taking of a human life?
I believe that political folks who take this position are triangulating to max out their support demographic. They can give a patina of being prolife to satisfy the mushy right, while also avoiding the full ire of the mushy left. End result, more votes for them, and more dead babies that should have not been murdered.
Peace,
SR
Trump is no Ted Cruz. There is ZERO EXCUSE for any CONSERVATIVE to throw their support behind him THIS EARLY in the primaries.
“WHO has give you the authority to determine right or wrong?”
I don’t think I mentioned right or wrong...
And your response otherwise made no sense.
I am not impressed. He’s validating murder if the father is a rapist or the couple are siblings. We surely don’t want babies coming into the world either of those ways, but it is horrifically inconsistent to say one believes in the sanctity of life, unless one’s dad is bad. Ridiculous. Life is sacred. We cannot, as a culture, afford to get comfortable with killing innocent persons, no matter how they came to be.
Peace,
SR
When a mother who has a child who started out life in such a condition is labeled a hero instead of a fool, less women will end the life of their child.
