Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

Well, Trump’s inroads into conservatives is picking up rapidly. In the latest poll, jan 23, Trump is strengthening his lead and pulling away from Cruz with conservative voters.

http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/01/22/zogby-national-gop-poll-donald-trump-45-ted-cruz-13-marco-rubio-8/

” Trump polls over 40% among men (49%) and women (41%), as well as Republicans (47%) and independents (49%), conservatives (46%) and moderates (45%). Mr. Cruz scores double digits among men (10%), women (16%), Republicans (15%), independents (10%), and conservative (15%). “

Among conservatives, Trump 45% Cruz 15%...these are some huge numbers and an alarming change in the race for Nikki Haley, National Review and the RNC/GOPe.

I think the old movies tended to fudge the medical facts for dramatic purposes. And also for the sake of covert abortion advocacy (e.g. "The Cider House Rules" --- invariably involving a wise, kindly, sensitive, good-hearted old abortionist)

Oh puh-lease. Gang of maddened jihadis and so forth. It's the jihadis who don't have any ethical objection about killing the innocent. The rest of us do.

Think about that.

To: GOPe Means Bend Over Spell Run

I’m neither an idiot or in bed with the GOPe, I just refuse to vote for a life long liberal like Donald J. Trump.

My vote will land with a proven conservative whom has spent his entire life defending liberty and the Constitution: Ted Cruz

I love this guy. I will not always agree with him as president. I am not quite as pragmatic as he is but I am so happy with this op-ed on killing babies. It says how real conservatives feel. Go Trump.

SR: "If it's OK to kill a human being for no reason other than who the father is, how is that not validating murder, the unjustified, unexcused, intentional taking of a human life?"

Well said, SR. A good steadying whiff of moral clarity.

As I said to another FReeper, who brought up the "what if she was gang raped by a pack of jihadi's?" scenario (used to be "by a Big Black Man with Gonorrhea" but hey, this is the 21st century)---

"It's the jihadis who don't have any ethical objection about killing the innocent. The rest of us do.

Think about that."

Is TRUMP really pro-life?

The first time I heard Trump speak as a pro-life Republican candidate the interviewer asked about his position on abortion,

Paraphrased: "I'm as pro-life as anyone can be. You wouldn't believe how pro-life I am."

The interviewer asked about exceptions.

Again, paraphrased: "Of course I believe in exceptions. Whatever exceptions the Republican Party believes in, I believe in!"

The man is a snake oil salesman and I trust him less than I trust Hillary or Obama. At least they wear their liberalism as a badge of honor!

And just how is your consistent pro-life candidate going to change Roe vs. Wade? Hmmmm? He isn’t. You seem like a one-issue person straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. The social issues aren’t much of a factor this campaign cycle. They are important, but, not main issues. Sealing the border is #! as well as the economy. Other issues will work themselves out in due time. Just because someone advocates pro-life doesn’t mean he or she will do anything about abortion. Otherwise, Ronald Reagan would have had an influence on this issue - as well as the Bushes. None have had the power to change it. So, if you would open your eyes instead of having a myopic view of one issue, amybe you would see that we need a strong leader in these times, and that isn’t Ted Cruz.

They are missing, and they are missed.

Brilliantly and compassionately put.

But those children with sick moms or with rapist or incestuous fathers, we don't miss them, they'll never be missed.

Lot of pro-life people have the same view.

Then they are not really "pro-life" they are just a little, in tragic, rare, exceptional and contrivable circumstances, pro-death.

I don't think that it's just a case of "demanding" that a woman give birth to a rapist's baby. A woman who is emotionally conflicted about her pregnancy needs, deserves, and has a right to get ongoing counseling so that she can experience this pregnancy and childbirth with the emotional and practical support she requires.

I have a friend who "assisted" at abortions back in 1970, when committing abortion was still prosecutable in most of the USA, but was legal in New York. She was a senior medical student at the Bronx Pediatric Hospital.

Pediatric? Yeah. She was dealing with children, that is, adolescent girls, many of them pregnant from rape and incest.

Long story short, follow-up "outcomes and sequelae" reporting convinced her that abortion as not truly therapeutic: in these disturbing situations, the girls who gave birth did not fare worse than the ones who had their babies aborted. In fact, the ones who had their babies had generally better outcomes for themselves, since they got ongoing support.

The girls who had abortions were basically told, "OK, you had the abortion, now get over it and move on."

In other words, this was supposed to be the quick fix that would make everything OK. My friend, Consuelo, reached the (reluctant) conclusion that they had been re-traumatized by the abortion itself and then abandoned by the "caring" professions.

The rapists, especially family/household members, appreciated the convenience, of course. Girl as rental vehicle: use her, vacuum her out, use her again.
