Facing an uphill battle in Iowa, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush urged conservatives to accept his more welcoming position on immigration as a way to increase their chances of winning the White House in 2016.
Iowa Republicans so far are leaning toward the conservative Republican governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, as their choice when the state holds the first nominating contest next Feb. 1.
Recent polls put Bush farther back in the pack, and one problem he has is his support for granting legal status for illegal immigrants.
Conservatives like Iowa Republican Representative Steve King call this amnesty. Bushs challenge is to convince conservatives that it is the right way to go.
He says immigrants will help power the U.S. economy to the type of higher growth of 4 percent a year that he envisions under a Bush presidency.

Hey, Jebster, get this through your fat ham head, we do not want our country turned into North Mexico.
“Jeb Bush urged conservatives to accept his more welcoming position on immigration as a way to increase their chances of winning the White House in 2016. “
Yeah, its never about what’s happening to the country.
The "let 'em eat cake" attitude historically doesn't work real well for the elite.
This guy is so tone deaf on immigration, that it actually causes me to think he’s incredibly stupid.
It isn’t a new perception, but this guy is absolutely clueless.
Jeb, just doesn’t get it. Jeb, your position on immigration is a loser. How about you run for President of Mexico and we send you a few million constituents back across the border?
FUJB!!
mmm...
Steve Holland’s blog piece on Reuters does not seem to match what Jeb actually said in Pella, Iowa.
Pushing amnesty is suicide in Iowa. Two of the four Congressmen are non-compromising in opposition, as is Sen. Grassley. The other GOP Representative and Senator, as well as the Governor, aren’t going to endorse amnesty with a presidential election coming up. Bush is alienating himself from the Iowa GOP establishment without gaining any grassroots support. Jeb is wasting his time in Iowa.
I agree with you. He comes off as dumb as a doorbell to me also.
Jeb the race baiting turncoat.
Thanks LongWayHome.
Name one successful nation where “the masses” have ever successfully ruled. With half the population with an IQ under 100, mobocracy would only lead to tyranny. I am frustrated that we cannot solve the problem of the iron law of oligarchy, other than limiting the powers of the government class.
Jeb, you chinless flab ball - GTFO of my homeland. Take your idiot Saudi Gimp brother with you.
The partisan media shills are drooling over the possibility of a Bush-Clinton struggle in 2016; meanwhile, Trump has staked out a conservative approach toward illegals. Every other Pubbie candidate is being astroturfed on the internet (including here on FR) about being pro-amnesty. We already knew that Rand was pro-amnesty, but he's not a Republican, conservative, or liberatarian -- he's a Democrat.
I see more kids than I can count on Staten Island buses that are Mexican.
The husbands work off the books while they also collect God knows how much assistance. The babies aren’t being born at home. That costs a lot.
And with the EIC, they get money BACK if they are allowed to file a return.
And now with Trump entering it’s getting crazy.
I think too many people turned on Cruz too quickly.
I’m still with him.
We all are. Republicans were given beyond-imagination victories in the HOR and US Senate. It wasn't that we fully trusted them....it was a strong message to stop Obama. We gave them enough rope. They could either use it as a lifeline or to hang themselves. They're hanging themselves.
It's possible that things don't turn around until it has to. Failed civilizations don't peacefully transcend to their former greatness.
New Hampshire is key to Jeb’s presidential chances. We know he has no shot in Iowa and is toast in South Carolina. If Jeb loses New Hampshire he’ll be 0 for 3 going into Nevada in a must win primary. With a little luck he may not make it to Super Tuesday.
Stuff it pal.
Jeb is the one person who could make me vote for HIllary.
