The White House reacted to the news today that Chairman Trey Gowdy of the House Select Committee On Benghazi requested an interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the use of her private email address and her home server.
During the White House press briefing today, Earnest said that the issue was now in the hands of Clinton and her lawyers as well as the leaders of the congressional committee.
I dont have an opinion on it, Earnest said, when asked about the request by reporters, reminding them that the former Secretary of State was acting as a private citizen now.
Ultimately if the committee makes a request and Secretary Clinton in her capacity as a private citizen decides that she wants to once again go above and beyond in terms of trying to provide them with information and access then that would be a decision for her to make, he said.
He confirmed that the White House believed it had done enough to clarify the nature of her communications.

Are they trying to set this up for Obama to 'pardon' Clinton when he leaves office?
Can the executive branch pardon someone who has run afoul of Congress anyway?
Unique and most creative. So The Beast is a private citizen, even though she was Secretary of State when Benghazi was going on... Supreme logic helped by some sort of hallucinogenic material that was consumed.
Under the bus she goes!
So the taxpayers are not footing the bill for her lawyers?
Yea right.
Hillary Clinton investigating Benghazi as a private citizen is..... like...
O.J Simpson investigating his wife’s murder case as a private citizen.
It’s when she was in government service that’s being investigated.
Ford pardoned Nixon.

Ran out the clock. I am guessing then that arresting her for depraved indifference wouldn’t then warrant government cover.
You can’t punish me now, mommy, the cookies are gone and I put the lid back on the jar.
LOL, "Secretary" Clinton HAS NO "capacity as a private citizen."
That's WHY she's called "Secretary"!
My interpretation of the comment is that the WH is saying government is no longer obligated to provide her free legal representation (as DoJ would if she was still serving in some official capacity) and she is footing the bill for this crisis herself.
Not that she is suffering for money (despite her “We were broke!” comments to the contrary). But now we have a taxpayer-funded Congressional committee legal staff doing battle with her attorneys. After awhile, the legal fee shoe will probably start to pinch.
The neat thing about it is that it is a lose-lose situation for her.
If she really did wipe the server, she loses. If she didn’t, and has to turn it over, she loses. If there are significant emails discovered in other locations that she didn’t turn over, she loses. If the emails reveal a pattern of political favor trading, she loses. If she goes into “Queen Hillary” mode and battles making an appearance before committee, she loses. If she appears but puts on a performance like the Benghazi Hearings, she loses. And, of course, she really can’t do much campaigning if she is constantly having to avoid press questions like she did recently.
So I see the WH statement as just another “no love lost between them” Valentine to HRC from BHO and Valerie Jarrett. Other than electing a Republican, the last thing either of them probably want is for THAT white woman to be elected President.
I don’t underestimate the power of the liberal wing of the Democratic party - especially liberal women Democrats - to muster resources to support her. The problem is sell-ability. She is taking on the appearance of leftover used goods (in more ways than one) from the previous election cycles. She is eight years older than she was when a charismatic junior senator from Illinois with damned little real experience bumped her off in the primaries. She will be “inevitable” until some other youthful Democratic personality comes along to give them a fresh look and a real alternative who could win.
The reply should be, “Be careful, she’s big enough to get high centered on.”
Best summary of Hillary’s issues ever! Great post!
Agreed. Fine post.
I do find the feud between Valerie and Hillary a bit odd, though, since Hillary was using her SoS position to support the jihad and would presumably continue to do so as President.
The president can grant a pardon for any violation of federal law, but I I don't think he can wipe out a contempt of Congress charge via pardon - that would be a violation of the separation of powers. But the DoJ can refuse to prosecute the charge, which is what they have done in regard to contempt charges against Lois Lerner and Eric Holder.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
That’s an understatement: They want Hillary to run and win the presidency for the Democrats. She could likely do it given that her husband was among the most popular presidents we’ve ever had.
With the German Army defeated, weren’t all of those guys at Nueremburg private citizens too?
