Islamabad (AFP) Pakistan has banned an Indian film about the love affair of a Muslim-Hindu couple on the grounds that it could offend viewers in the conservative Islamic republic, officials said Friday.
"Raanjhanaa" was scheduled for release in June, but Pakistan's Film Censor Board refused to clear it for cinema showings.
"The censor board did not clear this movie because of its controversial story," Arshad Ali, a senior government official and chairman of the board, told AFP.
"The board recommended that the movie's storyline could offend the majority Muslim population in the country and a law and order situation could arise in response," he said.
According to press reports the film is the love story of a Hindu man and a Muslim woman.

Everything up to and including fresh air offends some or all muslims somewhere or everywhere.
Sonam Kapoor and and Dhanush.
Which one is which?
They don’t burn books over there, they burn theatres, with the people in them....
Pakistani and other Muslims almost always have no problem with Muslim men marrying women of other religions and then forcing them to convert to Islam.
A Muslim-Hindu romance is bad, but if it’s a story of a young muslim and his favorite goat, then that’s OK. Especially if he’s known the the goat for a long time.
Muslims can’t heandle the truth....they can’t even handle a good story.
the love story of a Hindu man and a Muslim woman.
I kind of figured that would be the trouble.
“Don’t go. It’s a dreadful, dreadful movie.”
Kareena Kapoor falls in love with a muslim man, but things go awry after they get married and he becomes radicalized. He mistreats her, forces her to put on a Hijab, and expects her to keep silent about his terrorist activity. I can see why Pakistan wants to censor that type of Mulsim/Hindu romance.
...is the love story of a Hindu man and a Muslim woman.
In other words, the Muslim woman saying “GET ME THE HELL OUTTA HERE!”
Wasn’t “Partition” a love story about a Hindu man and a Muslim Woman?
As I recall the woman was played by the actress who played Clark Kent’s girlfriend in “Smallville”.
My mother is Catholic, my father Protestant
Which is why ended up on Free Republic.......
This movie? Partition (2007) - During the turmoil and violence of Partition, a Sikh ex-soldier, haunted by war, offers shelter to a young Muslim woman who has been separated from her family.
