They stopped using that early during the first term, because there wasn't any proof... That's what F&F was for. To gin up the proof. No better way to prove that US guns are used by the cartels in Mexican crime than for the US government to run US guns TO the cartels in Mexico... They just didn't realize there would be a few "whistle blowers" who couldn't let them get away with it.
Of course, the Ministry of Propaganda (us media) helped to bury the story. Can't let anything that might hurt the Obama regime get legs... I've got a feeling we're going to be seeing the same thing on Benghazi.

I took my wife to an Outback in Delray Beach last night for her birthday. We were seated in a booth right next to a family that was also celebrating a birthday. The guy who I assume was the patriarch was wearing one of those stiff, expensive baseball caps embroidered on the blackstrap was “Obama” and on the front and side was more Obama praise. It was all I could do to keep my steamed lobster tail down.

On the one hand, the drug problem in America is because of Americans using drugs, and this has caused the problem of the drug cartels in Mexico.
But then he turns around and says that the gun violence in Mexico is the fault of Americans and America’s guns.
According to the ‘logic’ of his first argument, the gun problem in Mexico is caused by Mexicans and their desire for guns and gun-related violence.
Here’s a new definition —
