Dale Carlsen was about 24 years old and had been merely selling mattresses, but finally Dale got frustrated and went into the biz for himself. He was coming up on having to make a payment on the loan for his new, tiny mattress company.
He didn't have much money, and this loan was at over 20% interest, ok?
Worse was that Dale had chosen the location of his first mattress store in gritty South Sacramento, near Sac State, alongside some train tracks, next to a flea market. He'd thought the flea market foot traffic would bring customers, but in fact flea market afficianados are not huge mattress spenders, right?
And in fact that first Sleep Train location had lots of drug dealers and SLUTS nearby --I'm serious.
So in fact young Dale was looking at a major business failure for his little struggling company. But next door to his little disheveled mattress dump was a pizza place, and that's where Dale, the CEO of the erstwhile tiny Sleep Train, Inc. would eat:
A drummer had taken time off from touring with his band to sell radio ads for KFBK, a Sacramento radio station, simply cuz his buddy worked there. So this drummer had gotten this gig as an, "Account Exec" and he would eat at the pizza place next to Dale's tiny, dumpy mattress store:
One day Dejected Dale is staring off into space over an oily pool in a piece of pepperoni, muttering about not being able to sell mattresses to sluts (a bit like that Georgetown feminazi from hell, except that these really were pro sluts). Meanwhile sitting next to him was Mr. Radio Account Exec, drumming his hands on the table, and he chirps back to Dale's, to cheer him up a bit, "Well there's a new guy at KFBK who just moved into town, and he needs a mattress..."
Dale goes, "OK well send him by..."
Maybe you have figured out that this guy who needed a mattress was Rush Limbaugh...?
OK well, poor fat Rush (who by that time had been fired 7 times and was 42 or so) waddles into Dale's place to buy his mattress for his tiny and empty apartment in none other than Rio Linda (which was the only place poor Rush could afford to live in Sacramento, at the time).
Rush bought a mattress, and being a natural salesman also convinced Dale to consider advertising on his show, on KFBK.
And Dale did exactly that, he took out ads on the show of fat, poor Rush Limbaugh, the unknown whose career would shoot skyward like a P51, and completely transform AM radio from an empty backwater for kooks and weather afficianados into a hotbed of politics and a, "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy".
And Rush turned on the charm, and talked up Dale's mattresses so much that they drove from miles and miles around, saying, "I want the same mattress Rush sleeps on..."
And so with that thunderclap of Rush-mediated publicity it turned out that Dale could make the payment on his +20% interest loan --he survived. And soon after he opened up a branch adjoining the parking lot of Rush's station, so intimate was the link between the growing success of each man.
And now Dale Carlsen has over 250 stores, in Sleep Train, making 1/3 of a billion dollars yearly.
But then something happened:
Dale fired Rush, the saleman extraordinaire, who'd saved Dale decades before.
Why?
--> Because Rush insulted dishonest feminist who thinks the government should pay for contraceptives. < --
I could understand some of the brand loyalty exhibited on this thread if they made their own mattresses and they were just heads and above better than the rest, but it just isn't the case.
No, I never heard of Sleep Train, either. Very possibly, they have no franchises on the east coast, or, at least, in the Philly area. So the station here advertises something else.
We have our own side taking halfhearted efforts and compromising...
Between the Tea Party and OWS extremes there is nothing left to do except cry in the streets?
It is far too late into this matter. Listen to Reagan's farewell address and realize how much we have failed ourselves. Our time for preventing this has long since passed.
You must not have READ Rush’s statement. Go read it again, slowly and carefully.
Rush always has been and still is brilliant.
Agreed! Rush knows exactly what he is doing. He’s a master at thinking first, and acting second. Every action has a reaction, and he’s setting up the reaction. That’s all.
Rush will survive.
A Freeper the other day shared this information on Quicken Loans - apparently, they are a disasterous scam of a company and deserves to have every negative incident reported and records for all to see.
I know from personal experience that the sleep number beds are horrible and do not even come close to the comfort of a conventional spring mattress.
We can do this much legally to show our disgust with these shysters who fly by night at the first whine of a lefty. Let's see who actually drives this economy? When is the next time some DUher or OWS freak is going to shell out $1500 for a mattress or enroll and actually pay for a monthly service?
Time for the powers that be to speak their mind.
You are so right. While listening last week, I kept thinking wow is this good.
Then read his statement and knew Monday’s show is going to be hot. Only 29 more hours to wait.....
And I’m sure the guy from Sleep Train said something to the effect, “Hey, it’s just business! Nothing personal, Rush.”
Yes, if they are real Freepers. I suspect many are Sleeper Freeper Trolls from the Dark Side. (c8
Your link doesn’t work.
Thanks
Good post!
The left doesn’t want the apology of Rush..the goal is and always has been to get him off the air.
We all know the left aren’t offended by the word “slut”.
They use it all the time against the women on our side.
Rush has a billion dollar property when you look at national and local advertisement sales, tie ins and potential to draw millions of additional subscribers to satellite..."
Not only that, but who is to say Rush doesn't mind getting some of these yahoos off the ad slate? There was a program in Jan. where he was out-loud complaining he didn't have enough room for everyone who wanted to advertise with him.
This woman will be completely and utterly forgotten in three months, while Rush will have replaced the dopey mattress ads and Carbonblabla with more willing adverti$ers...
Hold on there.
I doubt Rush is gonna advertise a product that is dishonest or crappy.
I bought a Sleep Number bed the week after my 2nd wife got her stuff out of my house - in 2005 - and I still think its the best. Heard about them first on Rush.
Can’t speak to Quicken or Carbonite and never heard of Sleep Train but I’ve a funny feeling it’s gonna be their loss and some other sponsor’s gain.
I’m a big advocate of boycotting companies with PC philosophies that annoy me - GE, HomeDepot, GM, anything union - and I happily email them with my reasons. But it’s irrational to trash their products if they perform as advertised. And it’s misguided to trash a good product that gets sold or serviced by an internal company idiot.
Yup - I emailed Sleep Train - told them they screwed up. But ironically, they’re making their own PC bed and the market will make them sleep in it.
I think Rush had no choice but to pen the “apology” (read the whole thing, it is not a flat out mea culpa but being portrayed this in the media by our enemies. Frankly, Rush has come back from worse, recall the pill flap? He was bombarded by the left then too but chose the right path by taking the issue straight on. This one, he did even better with the “apology” wherein he continues to highlight his point while retracting having called the whore a slut.
The Fluke bimbo got what she wanted, she wanted a Breitbart moment and unfortunately for us, he gave it to her. Hopefully, once used she will be discarded like a used condom by the lefties once they have ridden her fame as far as it will go (pun).
Meanwhile, Rush like any businessman facing a loss of revenue cannot just sit there and be blasted. He issued the “apology” in light of the ginned up firestorm. Reading Carbomite’s press release on its site, it did not say they were dropping him, just they would have a meeting this week to discuss going forward. I expect they will say the “apology” sufficed and they will put him on super probation and move forward because they don’t want to lose their prime advertiser.
In any event, looking forward to Rush tomorrow. It will be interesting seeing the path he takes about this. If he is smart, he will let it go and not try to get the high road back because as correct his logic, the use of the loaded word “slut” was not wise. My advice to him if he cared would be the same as one given to rookie attorneys: when the law is against you, argue the facts and when the facts are with you argue the law. In either of these cases, any argument for using “slut” falls short.
One thing he cannot come on and be contrite, he does that, and he is done.
You folks who are chipping your teeth about Rush apologizing need to chill. Rush appologized for a choice of words not an expression of truth. You people are as fickle as Sleep Train. Just Damn!
Consider also that Rush has now innoculated the GOP candidates on this by taking the lightning rod hit (imo quite purposefully).
The MSM, instead of being able to pursue this absurdity, now can only ask the candidates about Rush's statements; and the candidates can only thusly appear reasonable, and use the fracas as a pivot point to "let's talk about what's really important...ie jobs and this horrid economy."
OK, I've read it twice now. Pray tell, why do you consider it zotworthy?
True, he apologized for his choice of words. I will be very interested in hearing what he has to say on Monday. In the meantime, everyone needs to call or email these companies. I know people who are extreme liberals. They are still gloating about Glen Beck. Now they are aiming for Rush Limbaugh, (well they have been for a long time)
