Presidential nominee in 2008 faces GOP primary fight.
BY JOSEPH WEBER
Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said in an interview Monday that his planned primary challenge to Sen. John McCain will portray the four-term incumbent as a not-so-conservative Republican who has "enabled" President Obama and his failed economic and security policies.
"I'm giving Arizona Republicans a clear choice between a consistent, common-sense conservative . . . or someone who describes himself as a maverick but is a moderate," the outspoken Mr. Hayworth told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show.
Mr. Hayworth, 51, quit his job Friday as a conservative radio host -- a show he has broadcast since losing his congressional seat in 2007 -- and said he is preparing to formally announce his run later this week.
While Mr. McCain has led the opposition to the president's health-care reform, Mr. Hayworth said, the party's 2008 presidential nominee has "enabled" Mr. Obama by supporting the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, first passed under President George W. Bush. And Mr. McCain's opposition to using "enhanced interrogation techniques" on suspected terrorist detainees paved the way for Mr. Obama to order the FBI to expand legal rights and protections to suspected terrorists, Mr. Hayworth said.
"We have to live up to the conduct of the signatories of the Geneva Convention, while our Islamic fascist enemy beheads our soldiers, the ultimate torture," Mr. Hayworth said.

Also McCain proved again this weekend that he doesn’t understand the 1st amendment. Said the 5 justices were never in politics so couldn’t understand the issue.
In the end McCain was right!
Does the surge ring a bell?
Yes he was a jerk about the whole thing, bashing Bush in public. That doesn’t take away from him being right.
I know...just thought I’d slip that in.
“JD Hayworth was an earmark queen.
Yes McCain has treated conservatives like crap but JD has spent out money like it was his to play with.
I keep seeing this stated...what I would like to see is some sources for the statement, and also a comparison of McCain’s spending against Hayworth’s.”
Yes, me too. I keep asking those who post it, but never get any facts.
“Does the surge ring a bell?

Even Obama is right once in a while. McCain also wanted to put thousands of our troops on the ground in Kosovo to kill Serbs, whether they deserved it or not. Look it up.
That very statement by him is revealing of the his view that he doesn't consider the Constitution the governing law of the land but rather nefarious political views should prevail.
It *should* look something like this:
Hayworth - 100%
McQueeg - who?
If there are any Juan supporters left on this forum, I dare them to show their faces.
I’d like to see him run for President, but I guess getting him in the senate, retiring the maverick, and getting his visibility higher would halp. I don’t want them giving him the same treatment that they gave Duncan Hunter should he decide to make a play for the brass ring.
“If there are any Juan supporters left on this forum, I dare them to show their faces.”
Oh, they’re here. McCain can afford them. They’re usually the ones yelling ‘racist!!!’
No, he wasn’t right. He was a disloyal, dishonest, grandstanding, backstabbing snake... like he’s been for his entire political career.
Wars that are hopelessly lost aren’t saved in two months time by a modest troop increase. McCain bad-mouthed the war, the President and the SecDef to prop himself up and play savior. And he cost us the House and the Senate in the process.
And for the record, Rumseld presented the surge to the President before McCain ever claimed credit for it. It was one of several options for POTUS to choose from and that’s the strategy Bush selected. So it would have happened with or without McCain’s endless blathering on the Sunday shows about it.
OTOH, as mad as it made me at the time, McCain kept us from going nuclear over the judges a few years ago. Can you imagine if we had? We’d ALREADY be standin before Obmans death panels by now.
“Palin will be down in Arizona to save McCain in the primary. Shes gonna spend considerable political capital on McCains behalf to help him win the primary.”
We need to appeal to her *not* to come in March for him. She needs to wait til Sept. for him...promise to help him in Sept. If he’s not there, well that’s just too bad!
I heard Kyl on Dennis Prager just this morning. Prager seems to have him on once every couple of weeks lately. I like what he says.
“I think McCain will go Independent if he loses the primary and will likely win that way.”
Even if that happens, he’ll be outta the R party - and that’s great news.
Heehee—aren’t we going to have some fun with his dippy, big-mouthed daughter, though?
You ain't seen nothin' yet!
J.D. Hayworth is the man. where is his web site? The Senate will be a better place when J.D. replaces McLame.
It’s coming.
