PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”

Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

WooHoo, I’m going to jail. Free room, board, education, health care. I guess this will take the place of the article 15 I never received while in the US Army.

Having a visit from the Secret Service is nothing to laugh about.

Again, I said I wasn’t disagreeing with the position. No need to be an ass about it.

now it’s just laughable though isn’t it? Most people can’t pony up the bucks, a vast majority just won’t and then add in the illegal aliens and stir = crazy

Yes I know what you mean. I just had to google DU and see what those loons are saying about this. I hadn’t been to that sleezy forum in years, and now I wish I hadn’t visited. People saying “free health care for all”..they don’t get it. Nothing is free where the govt is concerned. They will rue the day they worshiped Pelosi and Co.

I have in-laws in Canada (I’m a Texan). There is saying among them, “Health care is just great here. You just have to die first”.

Pelosi is dumb as a rock. What/who/why keeps her going under the Tax Payer dime? Can't she remove herself from "service"? She is NO help to the public. We know that. Can't she just move to Prussia or Barbados or somewhere that would accept her?

She is so out of touch that Reid doesn't even want to talk with her anymore. Looking forward to her GONE from politics forever. She is and has been laughable for SO long.

Bu-Bye!

“Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We *want* them broken. You’d better get it straight That it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against– then you’ll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you’d better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Rearden, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

It’s time for a little civil disobedience! The bast*rds have proven what they intend for us, and if we let them get away with this, they are going to shove any and all legislation down our throats. We are letting a few hundred people destroy our lives and we need to resist now, or we’re toast!

“PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail”

There’s something wrong here. The last I heard Pelosi and friends had no intention of subjecting themselves to this turkey. Aren’t our rulers supposed to be subject to the same criminal law as the rest of us?

If and when “Pelosi Care” becomes law, we simple folk will be forced to accept it even though we don’t want it any more than she does. This would force most of us to accept inferior health care along with higher taxes, a lower standard of living. So wouldn’t that give those affected legal standing to file a criminal complaint against Ms Pelosi?

My brother-in-law (from Michigan) and I were at the Thursday tea party on the Capitol's lawn. We arrived two hours before it was suppose to start and there were a number of people but not as many as I had hoped. But as the time drew near, more and more buses unloaded until there had to be at least 30,000 and we were wall-to-wall people. All the Republicans House members came down to get their 30-second sound bite for their TV campaign commercial but it really was Michelle Bachmann who really put her reputation on the line who deserves the credit.

There were MANY representatives that were looking out the windows and someone stated that they could hear us inside the chambers. It's important that people keep phoning and emailing their representatives. They are getting very nervous and many of them know if this goes through they'll be kicked out.

By the way, I have been attending a number of these tea parties and writing letters (one of the reasons I haven't been around here much). If you have an opportunity, it is a wonderful experience. You meet a great number of patriots.

You have no idea how aggravating this healthcare scam is to me. You have no idea how much fear this strikes into my heart for myself and my country.

I have worked hard...all my life. I was never smart, nor clever enough to make millions or even hundreds of thousands. And like most people I've had my share of mistakes along the way too.

But in all my circumstances I've not taken a dime from the public dole. I've paid ALL my debts, even my own way through college. Oh...to say I didn't apply for financial aid would be a lie, but in order to apply for many of the scholarships...you had to apply for aid. I never qualified because I worked and any “aid” I received was at the end of each quarter the left over unclaimed scholarships awarded based on merit.

I have always been proud of taking care of myself. Under this plan the government is basically telling me, I can't take care of myself and no, we won't take care of you either. Instead I'll be fined or worse some bureaucrat decides I am being ‘willfully negligent’ and brings me up on charges.

I will be punished for being frugal with my few dollars. The most financially efficient way to deal with my medical issues becomes illegal. My obtaining basic medical services becomes no longer my private business.

Are there things wrong with the current health insurance system? They are a business that provides contractual services. For me it is like asking why I can't go to a five star restaurant for dinner? Simply because I can't afford their dinner doesn't mean they have broken the law, nor does it mean that because they serve food that they are responsible for providing welfare handouts.

Right now I can negotiate with my doctor and even the hospital if need be on the pricing for services. Five years ago when I need hospital grade medical services, I discovered that one could call the hospital billing departments and negotiate anywhere from a 10% to 75% discount on services(even if you were as much as 130+% over poverty level). No government involvement.

All of that disappears under Pelosicare. For many here on FR, who have the talents to succeed where I quite frankly don't, you worry about other things that will affect you from this horrible bill. I guess the reason for my posting is to let you know there are some of us...way down here...that need to not have our options taken away too.

We see it, we know it and we're fighting against it too. If this monstrous thing passes, I don't know what I will do. The government is essentially going to close the healthcare market and turn people like me into criminals.

I’ve said for a long time that this woman is mentally ill. This is confirmation. Let’s pull a Gerald Walpin on her. (Remember, he’s the good guy who was ousted because of his supposed “cognitive” issues. It was really because he disagreed with the little ballerina. And Glenn Beck gave him an Alzheimer’s test on his show, which GW passed with a 100.)
