Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

We've been on enough bases to know that people walk around unarmed. In fact the two times we were on a base when our son came home and we were there to greet him, he left us to turn in his weapon, and then walked around without any.

FORT HOOD (November 5, 2009)-Army officials have confirmed a mass shooting on Fort Hood.

The shooting started at about 1:30 p.m., according to a military statement, reportedly in the Sports Dome, which now serves as a center for soldiers and families preparing for deployment.

The Associated Press reports that seven are dead and 15 more are injured, but other reports place the number of injured as low as 12 and as high as 20.

A military statement confirmed seven dead and 20 injured.

Military spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Banks said two shooters were evidently involved, but said there is no word yet on who they were, or on identities of the dead.

Banks says the second incident took place at a theater on the sprawling base.”

I’m thinking about a similar plot that was foiled in New Jersey about a year ago. I think some members of the ROP were going to access a military base posing as pizza delivery men.

Note the attack was on two locations, as per the official Ft Hood statement just read on air. They fired into teh readiness center and theatre. Multiple shooters. Not sure how close those two locations are to each other.

Our company did work on the base 4 or 5 years ago and everyone was scrutinized closely before being allowed to work there.

However, we suffered a serious theft there during the night and no one could offer us any explanation or help on the issue.
