Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.
The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.
I left the room when it was on but heard the emphasis on "ME!" Of course it's all about him.
CBS/ AP) A law enforcement official says a shooting suspect at a U.S. military base in Texas has been identified as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan.
A source tells CBS News investigative producer Len Tepper that Hasan is a licensed psychiatrist in Bethesda, Md. He is a drug and rehab specialist who got his Virginia psychiatry license July 12, 2005.
The official said Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at Fort Hood. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
According to the Army Times, Hasan promoted to Major, medical corps April 22, 2009.
The official says investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name, or if he changed his name and converted to the Islamic faith at some point in his life.

The two suspects have been released and another is being sought. Per Rep. Carter on FOX.

That guy on Facebook is probably NOT the shooter.
Shouldn't that be cause to kick him out of the service? We didn't have Germans who loved Hitler fighting on "our side" during World War II ... and Japanese who hated Americans weren't allowed in the service either. Is everyone so PC they can't think straight?

The Pentagon is urging the media not to speculate on the motive for the attack. ABC News’ Brian Ross described Major Malik Nidal Hassan a convert to Islam.
Daveed Gartenstein Ross, a Long War Journal/Threat Matrix contributor and the Director of Foundation for the Defense of Democracies’ Center for Terrorism Research, said this about the attack:
“One important aspect of this case will be assessing whether Major Malik Hassan and his accomplices were acting out of religio-political motivations, or whether there was another cause to the shooting. In Asan Akbar’s 2003 grenade attack on fellow soldiers, he was very upfront about why he did it. Until the motivation is known, we won’t know if this was an act of terrorism; but if it was terrorism, understanding the process of radicalization that they went through will be critical.”

Wonder when he lived in Lubbock. That is 120 miles north of me. Are you sure this is THE Malik Hassan?
