MSNBC is having an on air meltdown over a man their camera crew videotaped openly carrying a handgun at an anti-Obama protest in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning near where Barack Obama will be holding a town hall meeting later today.
MSNBC showed footage of the man with the gun openly holstered to his right leg. He was holding a large sign with words about the tree of liberty.
The Portsmouth police chief informed MSNBC the man was legally armed.
The man was reportedly standing with a group of protesters on the property of a church.
More as this develops.
He doesn’t seem out of order, doesn’t seem to be provoking anyone but the lefties and those too timid to stand up for their own rights, let alone the rights of others.
In the near future there will be men and women like that who are also using megaphones and leading others. They won’t be union plants either, they will be patriots on the cutting edge.

The methods you describe might work well against one or two adversaries at a standoff distance. On the other hand, I have lived in places (LA, San Francisco), where if you appeared armed you were simply the first target. As for warning them off, I depend on a high degree of situational awareness to detect threats rather than rely on a display of force to act as a shield. This approach has proven viable for me on several occasions.
I have also learned that, if an opponent is PO'd enough, a weapon in one's possession may or may not be a reliable deterrent.
Lastly, at these town hall brawls meetings, you are going to be packed in, so concealment would not only prevent warning your adversary, but it would also protect against someone attempting to snatch your gun away.
These are only my opinions and own experience; as you know, individual mileage can and will vary, and tactics change depending on the situation and how it unfolds.

I bet the SS hates these little charades when Obama decides he wants to get all folksy, mingle with the common man, and copy what mainstream America is doing. It probably is a nightmare for them to have to be among the smelly masses like us so that B.O. can have his little parade. Since average Joe goes out for a burger, he has to do the same. If they show up at townhalls, he gets that “me too” attitude and stages one for himself. I’d love to know who the Einsteins are who advise him. He’s always a day late and a dollar short.
Go look up how 99.9% of bible scholars interpret the parable. I'm not going to argue it with you. Jesus rejected the existing political state of affairs and taught a form of radical nonviolence. Central to Christ's teaching, is His biblical mandate to "turn the other cheek" when encountering violence (Matthew 5:38-48). The way to victorious living is to refrain from the game of sociopolitical control. Jesus exposed the futility of the violence engrafted in the present world system by resisting its inclinations even to the point of death.
Therefore, Christians are to refuse the world's violent methods and follow their Savior to the cross (Matthew 26:47-52). When Jesus told the disciples to buy a sword (Luke 22:36), He was only speaking figuratively. The cross is Christ sword, it represents the Word in total.
So if you like, sell your cloak and by a cross. Either preach it or be nailed to it.
It does not however, mean buy a sword and kill someone.

Years ago, Jeff Cooper delineated the “Color Code” and the “Principles of Personal Defense” in an effort to provide us with a logical model for one’s thinking on the subject of mental preparedness. I’d like now to go to the next step and apply the same logic to the issue of personal appearance and demeanor, as we all agree that, in the domestic defensive environment, avoiding a fight is preferable to winning one.
Layer One: Nonattendance. The best way to handle any potentially injurious encounter is:
Don’t be there. Arrange to be somewhere else. Don’t go to stupid places. Don’t associate with stupid people. Don’t do stupid things. This is the advice I give to all students of defensive firearms. Winning a gunfight, or any other potentially injurious encounter, is financially and emotionally burdensome. The aftermath will become your full-time job for weeks or months afterward, and you will quickly grow weary of writing checks to lawyer(s). It is, of course, better than being dead or suffering a permanently disfiguring or disabling injury, but the “penalty” for successfully fighting for your life is still formidable.
Crowds of any kind, particularly those with an agenda, such as political rallies, demonstrations, picket lines, etc are good examples of “stupid places.” Any crowd with a high collective energy level harbors potential catastrophe. To a lesser degree, bank buildings, hospital emergency rooms, airports, government buildings, and bars (particularly crowded ones) fall into the same category. All should be avoided. When they can’t be avoided, we should make it a practice to spend only the minimum time necessary there and then quickly get out.

He may very well have exercised poor judgement, time will tell. However, with regard to the right to keep and bear arms, when is a good time?
According to the media, never.
My argument is that, if this person shows proper discretion and nothing comes of it, then he advanced the cause of restoring the right to keep and bear to its proper place.
I talked to a very prominent person in the concealed carry movement.
He made the argument that these displays of open carry cause more harm than good to the CCW agenda because of the negative publicity.
In this situation, though, it’s good for ACORN and SEIU thugs to know that they might end up dead if they try their thuggery on the wrong person.

The President is not a king amongst subjects but one who presides over the government. If the President doesn't want to go to states where the citizens are armed then let him stay home.

Either everyones Rights are protected, or no ones are.
Although I’d agree with that for most personal situations, that then would leave people with the choice of avoiding the political rally and demonstrating apathy or attending unarmed, lacking in protection and/or silencing a powerful voice.
The politicians that do not respect and honor the citizenry damn well need to fear it.

You make some good points.
Much of this discussion, though, assumes that you’re the only one armed - the only armed law-abiding citizen, that is. And in the situation in question in NH, it appears there’s only one armed fellow in the crowd.
If there were, say, a few dozen other folks armed, we wouldn’t be discussing whether a thug could grab his gun and seize control of the situation. Likewise, if a mugger could reasonably expect to be confronted by a handful of armed citizens any time he accosts one person on the street, there’d be a lot fewer muggings going on.
The point is this: We need to outnumber and outgun the enemies of civil society. And we need to make sure they know it.
I like that sign the protestors are holding up. Let the bureaucrats feel threatened. Ever since the lives of the citizenry have been threatened through ZeroCare (which I think is a more apt description) I’ve been more than ecstatic at the reaction of everyone. We’re not rolling over.

Geez, why is it so hard for people to figure this parable out these days?
Christs sword, the symbol of his church is the CROSS! It represents the WORD (gospel) of christ!
Why would christ suddenly say, go buy a sword, when the entire parable is talking about spreading the gospel?
