[history]
MSNBC is having an on air meltdown over a man their camera crew videotaped openly carrying a handgun at an anti-Obama protest in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning near where Barack Obama will be holding a town hall meeting later today.
MSNBC showed footage of the man with the gun openly holstered to his right leg. He was holding a large sign with words about the tree of liberty.
The Portsmouth police chief informed MSNBC the man was legally armed.
The man was reportedly standing with a group of protesters on the property of a church.
More as this develops.

I’d say it’s a message to the thugs that they will be thwarted if they try what they did in St Louis.

Hey, just because I'm not a cop or ex-military doesn't mean I can't possess my weapon responsibly.
Exactly!
It's this "we the people can't handle our own lives" attitude, this "only professionals can make good decisions for us" attitude, that's gotten us into the fix we're in.
That's precisely what we're protesting. And some FReepers are siding with the "only government can take care of you" folks without realizing it.

“Oh the horror! A citizen exercising two Constitutionally protected rights at the same time!!!”
With this statement, you have just verbalized the crux of the issue. You have also just deflated ANY and ALL faux meltdowns the poor, fainting damsels will have on the state-run media. What this man is doing is as American and legal as mom and apple pie. But the media will conflate these constitutional rights to equal a crazed, murderous mobster who not only talks a bit too loud to suit them, but also is in protective mode. They’ll screech, “He has a WEAPON!” God bless him!!!

You’re a loon. An emotionally charged event with ACORN, SEIU and other union thugs is exactly when you make sure you carry.

"Way to go, Nathan. You assume were the stupid ones who are have no idea what were doing, which makes us vulnerable to being played by the masterful and oh-so-superior-in-knowledge obama goons. Your lack of faith is disturbing.
I insinuated no such thing. All I said was these union goons will try intimidate. It makes THEM look like the goons they are.
They try it with cops, security on picket lines all the time. Yet you don't see those who know how to handle their guns loose their cool.
It is wrongheaded thinking however, to think that people open carrying will "keep the peace" because the sight of a gun is intimidating.
It is not, especially to those whose reason for being there is to intimidate.

In Texas you must carry concealed if you have the necessary government issued permit...BUT you can carry a long rifle openly !! Go figure.

As a gun owner myself, as is my husband, to bring a gun to an emotionally, angry charged meeting in public such as this, is irresponsible. So, just like the gun-banners, you're saying that people are too emotionally unstable to act like adults and control themselves and their violent impulses, and should not have the means to defend themselves at their disposal because they might use it to harm someone else?
That's the law of the jungle, not the rule of law.

I agree. Neither would I. In fact, I’m pretty careful where I carry mine. Things have really changed since even my grandparents’ youth, when a firearm was just part of your everyday wardrobe. They could not have DREAMED that this would be the issue it has become. Of course, they lived in the hills and knobs of rural Tennessee/western N.C., but that’s a different story.
To: kristinn
Nope,sorry...can't agree with this at all.I'm as strongly pro-2nd Amendment as anyone you'll meet but I don't agree with anyone but police, military and Secret Service being armed while in the vicinity of the President....even one as loathsome and despicable as Hussein.
