CPAC Chairman: Palin Not Ready for Presidential Run

Thursday, July 9, 2009 8:27 AM

By: Ronald Kessler

Sarah Palin needs to stop whining about unfair media coverage and get over the fact that some people don’t like her, Dave Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, tells Newsmax.

Palin doesn’t seem to get that politics is a tough game, says Keene, one of the country’s most astute political observers.

The American Conservative Union, with 1 million members, runs the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington and publishes an annual "Rating of Congress," the gold standard for ideological assessments of members of Congress.

“You’ve got to recognize that there are people who want you to fail,” Keene says. “And if you spend your time worrying about them, or whining about what they say, at the very least it’ll get you off your game, because you ought to be worried about what you’re going to do, not about what they’re going to do to you.”

Resigning as governor of Alaska only compounded Palin’s problems, which have been accumulating since the November election, Keene says.

“In the period leading up to the resignation, she needed to get over the fact that people didn’t like her,” Keene says. “Get over the fact that she harbored resentment for the McCain people that used her. All of those things are true, but she got more out of it than they did, and she had to begin to move on with what she needed to establish in terms of her own image, to move to the next level. And she delayed doing that.

"Now it becomes more difficult because of the way in which she bailed out on the governorship.”

David Keene, Managing Associate of the Carmen Group Lobbying Firm, and Head of CPAC, Alexandria, VA.

Political contributions in 2008 election cycle:

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 5/1/07 $1,000 Specter, Arlen (R)

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $800 Specter, Arlen (R)

KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $200 Specter, Arlen (R)

Add to this the fact that this bum also endorsed Romney in December 2007 and you got a guy that has "part of the problem" stamped on his forehead.

DO NOT DONATE TO CPAC!

People just don’t get it. Instead of coming together as a PARTY we are all infighting, that is what the Dems want, if Sarah can use her star power to come out and help advance the Conservative Movement, isn’t that what we all want, to take back the Senate, to get Obama out of the White House, I thought that is what we all wanted. If Sarah can help make that possible wouldn’t this have all been worth it for her, to do this. That is what she meant by “higher calling” I believe, she is gonna speak out against Obama, speak at tea parties(etc) and help advance the Conservative cause. We should be thanking her for wanting to embark on that path and if successful, I will be so grateful for her for doing that

Mrs. Palin does not play by lefty rules, RINO rules, old rules or your rules.

Sarah herself said, “It’s not politics as usual.”

This is going to come as a great surprise to a lot of
folks on both sides of the isle.

“People don’t worship Sarah, they like her, and feel she would be a great candidate that can rally the support to beat Obama.”

Wellllll, I kinda do...I have never in my life seen anyone in political office that I so completely trust.

If nothing else; Sarah’s resignation has really exposed the RINO’s under the ‘big tent’.

My BS detector is going off on this one. Trust NewsMax but verify.

Did this person even READ/HEAR her announcement? Or pay attention? Had they done so, they would NOT have heard a crybaby feeling sorry for herself, but a wise person who knows when to cut losses and stop allowing the liberal squawking heads to set her agenda.

And more proof that anyone who says one negative thing (even if it is constructive criticsm) is labeled a RINO.

I'm not calling Keene a RINO or resorting to name-calling, but he's clearly wrong here. Palin gave valid reasons why she needed to step down. If Keene is too ignorant to understand that, then that's his problem.

Keane is correct. Governor Palin needs to toughen up and worry about what she is doing, not what others say about her.

Try running a state when you have Democrat/Obama operatives filing charges against you that are preventing you from doing the job you were elected to, and get back to me. I have not heard Palin "whine" about the media other than pointing out the FACT that there were double-standards and gross hypocrisy involved in that coverage.

This has nothing to do with Obama. This is about Governor Palin.

It does have something to do with Obama. It just goes to show you that even conservatives have no problem attacking their own but never say a peep about Obama's real lack of experience and shady background.

Again, the Palin supporters show their lack of spine and their continued goddess worship (in a sickening Obama like way) of Governor Palin

Call it what you want. But Palin is so far the only Republican with the guts to criticizing Washington and the Obama administration and simultaneously defending conservative principles. If that's worshipping, then pass the collection plate.

“And she delivers RESULTS! Who else can bring in 20,000-30,000 people at short notice?????”

That’s the type of thing the Palin haters, MittBots, and other assorted pseudo-conservatives ignore. Here are some others: Palin picked up 30,000 Twitter followers right after she resigned. Gov. Perry (TX) has already announced that Gov. Palin will be campaigning for him. Palin has a $4,000,000 advance on the table for a book deal. Shepard Smith had a piece on Fox yesterday about how Palin could easily pull $20,000,000 next year (can you say WAR CHEST!) Palin is already lining up a speaking tour with the focus on what Beck calls “The Real America” (very good way to build lasting and pervasive grass roots support, key to volunteer staffing for a national campaign).

Gee, sure looks like she made a HORRIBLE mistake, huh?

What part of this is 2009, not 1809 or 1939 are you not getting?

Times change. Many say that if JFK came back today, he could not be a democrat because he wasn't leftist enough.

Have things changed since 1960? Of course they have. However, I would bet that Ronald Reagan would perfectly understand Mrs. Palin because he could also connect with people on a personal level.

If that “scares” you, I suggest you go hide somewhere and watch things unfold.

I wonder how he would like it if someone came out and called for him to be gang raped if he ever went to New York City. I wonder how he would like his children to be called “retarded” and being accused of not fathering them. I wonder how he would like being called “stupid” “Moron” “lame” must I go on. I wonder how he would like having to use his personal bank account to fight smears and BS lawsuits filed against him everyday. If Sarah had not resigned, by this time next year she might have been bankrupt, I don’t think this job was worth for her to have her bank account cleaned out and not have any money to support her children and grandchild. Sarah has been persecuted in a way I have never seen in my entire life, her life has been threatened, heck now some idiot says she killed Michael Jackson, just watch for that to spread and some idiot will believe she did and try to kill her, this is what she has to deal with on a daily basis

“As to the ‘quitter’ charge, politicians resign their offices early all the time. The ethics hounding of the Democrats actually gave her a legitimate in-state reason to pass the reins over to her lt. gov ally a few months earlier than she might have otherwise.”

The fact that she was able to do it is testimony to her executive ability and confidence her agenda would be carried out!

Dave Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union

Another RINO without a clue, whistling past the graveyard of history. These limp-wristed pansies still think politics will continue doing business as usual.

Thank you very much for that information!

We need to look at the backgrounds of all these people, otherwise they just appear to be some sort of neutral, omniscient talking head discoursing from Olympus.

Still do. Won’t get it with CPAC and RINOs. The infighting is not a result of Sarah but of the inability to shed the RINOs.

What’s sad is that you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Palin has dealt with dirty politics from the beginning and she’s NOT going off to the corner for a good cry. She got out of the way for the good of the state and the programs she wants to move forward. Nothing in the article was constructive or useful. It’s just more bashing from the frightened people in charge that are trying to stay relevant.
