CPAC Chairman: Palin Not Ready for Presidential Run
Thursday, July 9, 2009 8:27 AM
By: Ronald Kessler
Sarah Palin needs to stop whining about unfair media coverage and get over the fact that some people dont like her, Dave Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, tells Newsmax.
Palin doesnt seem to get that politics is a tough game, says Keene, one of the countrys most astute political observers.
The American Conservative Union, with 1 million members, runs the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington and publishes an annual "Rating of Congress," the gold standard for ideological assessments of members of Congress.
Youve got to recognize that there are people who want you to fail, Keene says. And if you spend your time worrying about them, or whining about what they say, at the very least itll get you off your game, because you ought to be worried about what youre going to do, not about what theyre going to do to you.
Resigning as governor of Alaska only compounded Palins problems, which have been accumulating since the November election, Keene says.
In the period leading up to the resignation, she needed to get over the fact that people didnt like her, Keene says. Get over the fact that she harbored resentment for the McCain people that used her. All of those things are true, but she got more out of it than they did, and she had to begin to move on with what she needed to establish in terms of her own image, to move to the next level. And she delayed doing that.
"Now it becomes more difficult because of the way in which she bailed out on the governorship.
A romney supporter.
Don’t look now, but there is a very large steam roller coming right up the pike.
Mrs. Palin does not play by lefty rules, RINO rules, old rules or your rules. It’s a new day.
Who the ^)%^(%^ care WHAT CPAC wants, WHO made THEM a Kingmaker!
And so Free Republic continues its transformation from a conservative news forum to a Sarah Palin fansite.
You are saying she is NOT a conservative? Or not worthy if having fans? I know a conservative when i see one, my friend, and this is not another RINO...why not go with a winner? Who is more accepted by the majority of FReepers?
Agreed. I just have to wonder how much of this crap (like on this thread) originates with trolls?
Wow! What is that man doing running CPAC, or what is anyone doing supporting or attending CPAC?
Amen. I agree 100%.
Well, she did quit....
That’s it?
That’s all you got?
Pathetic.
Are you for real? Constructive criticism is given in private. This was a hit piece, plain and simple...
Sarah stepped aside to keep Alaskan taxpayer’s time and money from being flushed down the toilet defending her from ethics violations. We need MORE fiscally responsible politicians like this; not less. KMA, Mr. Keene.
Political contributions in 2008 election cycle:
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 5/1/07 $1,000 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $800 Specter, Arlen (R)
KEENE, DAVID, ALEXANDRIA,VA 22314 THE CARMEN GROUP/EXEC 12/19/07 $200 Specter, Arlen (R)
Add to this the fact that this bum also endorsed Romney in December 2007 and you got a guy that has "part of the problem" stamped on his forehead.
DO NOT DONATE TO CPAC!
Way to go smoking that creep out!!!!!
There is a maddening tendency to do this. However, I'm not sure I would characterize this as "constructive" criticism.
I don't know if Sarah has her eyes on 2012 or not. If she does, it is much too soon for the chattering classes to determine whether or not she will be ready. Maybe she will, maybe she won't. But she has about 2-1/2 to 3 years to get ready. During that time, she can be campaigning for candidates for state and federal office, making policy speeches, hitting the books on international affairs, finding some political aides who hold the same principles and have experience on the national stage...
I like Sarah. I like her positions, her character and her personality. But I will be the first to admit that she has work to do in order to be a viable candidate for national office. Fortunately, by stepping down from the governor's office, she has given herself the time and opportunity to make the changes needed.
Resigning as governor of Alaska only compounded Palins problems, which have been accumulating since the November election
Well, if she would have stayed as Governor, those problems would have been amplified and she wouldn't have been able to do her job, and these same critics would point that out. So Palin was really in a no-win situation here.
Keene is playing with fire here. Those conservatives who support CPAC and attend the yearly event? They're Palin's base, you moron.
Bingo...watch membership numbers tank ala Obama's approval ratings...
This needs to be publicized.
How about, Hot Buttered PopScorn...
Hahahahaha...
Ping to #86
Is this guy for real? Wonder how he would act if the press dumped on him the way that they have on Palin.
Indeed.
"We're not totally convinced that Sarah Palin is the cure to all America's ills"
the overwhelming response here would be "Get back to your graves and rot, you phony conservatives!"
It's really starting to approach the level of last year's Obama worship on the left. A little scary.....
