Hey y'all,
I am in the process of negotiating with the Gaylord Palms hotel to hold our Freeper Convention there on April 25. We can get a rate of $99 per night (which is a great rate for this really nice hotel) and the convention room will be complimentary.
For that rate they are asking for us to block a minimum of 40 rooms; if some people are staying both Friday and Saturday nights that would count as 2 rooms. The contract will be written such that if all 40 rooms are not picked up we would have to pay the difference. So, for example, if only 10 rooms were actually reserved the person signing the contract (me) would owe them $2970. I told them those terms were not acceptable, but they seem to be willing to work out some other terms if I can get them a firm number on how many guest rooms will be reserved.
Please mail me by Friday, 3/27/09, and let me know if you will be staying at the hotel and for how many nights. Without getting committments from you I feel uncomfortable agreeing to even 10 rooms, though I hope we have a better showing than that!
The convention will be on April 25, a Saturday, from 8am to 6pm. Room reservations for Friday and Saturday will count towards our minimum number required.
Gettin’ the old Harley going,I’ll be there.
Signed , SROH
Do we need to get the room in advance?
So glad you are going to join us! Just keep this thread bookmarked and check back. Roos_girl will post the details on when to register for the rooms when she gets everything nailed down. Will be looking forward to a great time in Orlando! :)
Keep those reservations coming, folks. This will be a total experience....a serious conservative agenda, meetings and discussions to focus our direction on what lies ahead and what we can do as chapters and individuals....plus every opportunity to interact with freepers from all over for ideas and inspiration......plus some relaxing time in a fantastic venue where you don't even have to walk outside to be amazed and astounded by the sights and free entertainment in your surroundings.
Please signify to our chair, Roos_Girl, on this thread that you're attending and for how many nights. As a lot of us are doing, you may want to arrive late afternoon on Friday so you're relaxed for the Saturday agenda.
Please don't wait till the last second to register if at all possible.....although this is necessary in some cases for some folks. Conventions need planning around attendance numbers. Have you ever been volunteers in charge of a large event? 'Nuff said!
Details on how to register for your room coming very shortly. Agenda, speaker and all that jazz will come later. This takes some time to put together.....but it will come!.

I plan on attending the convention But I live in Kissimmee
so I won’t need a room and couldn’t afford one anyway even though that’s a great price for the Gaylord Palms. If I can help setting up let me know
never feed the gators they loose fear of man and will approach humans for food
I will be sure to call in for my reservation as quick as a hen on a June bug! And that is fast, let me tell you! I see it daily....but that is another story....I am also rewarded with farm fresh “free range” eggs every day! :)
Let me know when your little red hen tells you the sky is falling in so I can be prepared, LOL.

Seems my wants got ahead our our needs. We’ll be cleaning out chicken houses at the time to get them ready for the next flock.Though you never know,I have kin in Jacksonville that we can stay at and ride to Orlando instead of booking a room and not showing.
Will do!:) And trust me, my little red hens know when something big is coming up! They start talking to me slow and calm about being prepared......but right now they are talking faster and more joyful about what is coming up in Orlando on April 25th! :)

Hope you do make it to the convention! Always lik to meet other folks who love chickens!
I grew up raising chickens back in the 40’s, hatched chicks for 43 years of teaching to show one of God's miracles to children. Now have five of my own. Four are young and laying full steam, but one is seven years old and still laying every couple days. Happy chickens they are with the best eggs to eat! Never have to buy those “penitentiary chicken eggs” from the store! :)
We were going to be out for 2 to 3 months, then Pilgrams Pride changed it to 5-6 weeks.Got some inside info though. There is going to be a shortage of birds at your local supermarket come May to June .Buy now and save.
While I've spent my time 'working the fields', when it comes to chickens, they always looked too much like 'work'...so I just 'sold and delivered eggs', 'on the penitentiary reservation!
...not, by chance, due to that muslim Tyson plant in Tennessee that's been all over the news lately??!
The new CEO over Pride has been going to the different processing plants and looking at their books. If the site isn’t making a profit he shuts them down, period, within a time frame (don’t reckon he’s to cold blooded) .Therefore a shortage of birds and the price of what is there will go up.The Enterprise Ala. plant is hanging in there. And therefore we went from 2-3 months to 5-6 weeks.Understand around July , Pride will be begging landowners to build houses to place their birds in.Go Figure.
It is always nice to have farm fresh eggs! But enough of my “chicken talk”. Time to move on to our NEW CONVENTION THREAD! More up to date info will be posted here:

Thanks Leni! I don’t think I will be able to make it, but good luck to you and the new Florida Chapters, I wish you best of luck!
Just got back into town and saw your invitation. I’m not going to be able to make it to the convention, but I appreciate your note. Perhaps I can make it to one of your other events. I would like to.
