I could tell and why I was almost shouting WAIT!!! :)

Republicans need to do a much better job of getting out the word instead of allowing the media to define everything. One wrong headline and someone is in trouble.

So, even with the nonexistent debate over the Dems still need 60 votes to pass it out of the Senate? RINOs will be the ones to give 0bama cover to call it bipartisan. I even heard today that the ‘Gang of 18’ consisted of 15 Dems and those 3 Repubs. Not exactly bipartisan no matter how you look at it. But we all knew that 0bama was a pathological liar.

“me thinks your thread is just fine, everybody is a little pissed off right now, rightly so”

I guess...I’m one of them...when I heard it on the tube, I heard them saying it was the first step in the final passage, which I agreed with...I posted it and all the nah, nah, nah started, instead of adressing the original post itself, which, IMHO was the story that I still felt was the important one, that we are on the path to hell...I started feeling a little like Joe the plumber...I kept explaining what happened, apologized and they kept attacking me like I was purposely misleading everyone...but, like Joe, I really don’t know how it became about me...go figure...apologies don’t matter to some of these folks...I feel sorry for them, not for me...shoot the messenger, but the story is still the same...

This is the vote to end cloture — vote on the bill is tomorrow morning.

At least that gives us time to make certain we have a barf bag within reach. We can also be judicious in our choice of breakfast tomorrow morning..or supper tonight for those in the west.

We do have one more chance after tomorrow. When the additional pork is added to the bill in the Conference Committee we have a chance to filibuster that one. It is only a chance but my hope is that the House will add everything back in that was stripped and the bill goes over $900B and at least Collins might balk at that or she said it isn’t a done deal until it comes back from Conference Committee.

My recommendation is everyone after tomorrow switch gears and go back after their House and Senate Members to vote against the Conference Committee Report. We have one small chance left that will be the final vote.

Knowing that Collins and Snowe will vote tomorrow for the
Porculous bill and will be re-elected no matter what, and
with the two votes being enough to pass the bill Specter
may vote against it just to cover his @ss.

If Collins and Snowe are not re-elected, they will be replaced by communists.

What's the difference?

Collins just got re-elected to a six year term by a wide margin. She is not worried. Snowe and Specter would lose in their liberal states if they voted against the bill. If it gets changed too much in House/Senate reconciliation process they could possibly vote against final passage.

You are correct. Those three will give him the win. Our local news was reminding people that 60 votes are needed in the Senate for final package.

I heard from one of our Senate staffers that it was 15-3 and you correct that is not bi-partisan especially when one of them supports Scottish law.

-- They still need 60 votes on this bill because of the rules put in place by Lott/Dems so nothing could be rammed through the Senate ... --

Nope. The vote today was to limit debate on one amendment. Associated with that is an agreement to have vote on final passage set at 60, with the potential for additional "point of order" votes which are, by Senate rule, set at 60. The 60 vote threshold for the vote on final passage is just a short cut combination cloture/final passage vote. Senators know that it takes 60 to limit debate, and when the KNOW there are 60 supporters, they usually agree to skip the formality of separate cloture and substantive votes.

The pair of cloture.substance votes can happen on many single items. In this case, the two single items are 1) amendment and 2) bill.

This is a long shot, but the CBO is scheduled to score the thing “early this week”. If they come out with their numbers and they are ugly maybe it could help. On second thought, probably too late.

If this was to invoke cloture, do all you guys and gals think you can change the minds of Specter, Collins, Snowe and Corker with your descent upon Washington D. C.

It won't matter if all four of them vote no tomorrow. For the bill to pass, it only needs 51 (or 50+ Biden), not 60.
