So doesn’t that mean Corker voted to stop the filabuster? And if so, why is that good?

I called Steele’s office today and the guy who answered the phone said RNC could not kick them out, but they could resign from the party.

-- This was a procedural vote repeated over and over again before some of you go off the deepend and bombard his office. --

His agreement to limit debate facilitates the bill advancing. When fewer than 60 Senators agree to limit debate, the matter usually dies on the spot. It certainly stalls at that point, until 60 senators agree to limit debate. The only reason his vote "doesn't count" is that there weren't exactly 60 in favor of limiting debate. He's giving cover to his sisters from Maine and his brother from Pennsylvania.

Bombarding his office is not inappropriate, if one feels this bill ought to die an ignoble death right here in the Senate.

It is pretty much a given that this POS bill is unconstitutional and a power grab by the federal government (particularly congress) against the states... there is no way the commerce clause can be twisted into this monstrosity of a bill and to say so completely violates constitutional conceptions of federalism and the very reason the 9th amendment was introduced.....

is there any way to get a court to strike this down though? since there is no generalized taxpayer standing except to challenge the establishment clause, can anyone possibly challenge its constitutional validity? could a state governor (maybe sanford) cause a state to challenge it? would they?

This was the vote for cloture not on the bill.

Which was our only hope. It takes 60 to stop debate and bring it up for a vote. They only need 50 + Biden to pass the legislation. It's over.

They should stop using words like "cloture" which people don't understand. They could just call it the vote to stop debate and go to a vote. Having the population not understand is a basic tenet of Congress. Personal power is their most important principle.

"The GOP should cut off all political funding for these traitors."

Exactly. I just heard Specter on Hannity's radio program and I am furious. He thinks he has a record of being independent. What a laugh. He has a record of being 150 lbs of manure in a 50 lb. bag and had the audacity to whine about what a tough job he has. Worthless.

If this was to invoke cloture, do all you guys and gals think you can change the minds of Specter, Collins, Snowe and Corker with your descent upon Washington D. C.

As pressure to inject stimulus into the soft economy rose, both sides sweated the details, their lips pursed with amendments.

“Is there any protectionism?”
“Is this for the long term?”

These questions were asked, but in the rush any such concerns were lost in the swirl.

“This bill has been sequestered for too long”. The engorged legislation was finally presented, to loud verbal outcry.

Soon, the Senate body rocked back and forth with counteroffers and political posturing. Stiff opposition in the heated chamber was soon overcome.

“We’ve reached cloture!” someone yelled, and a Niagra of debt seeped into every corner of the constituency.

Tired, and a tad remorseful, they turned to quietly contemplate sin taxes.

That should have happened 6 years ago.

W and the RNC supported these vermin over conservative primay opponents

You are correct about the word cloture — you have to vote no to continue the debate. They still need 60 votes on this bill because of the rules put in place by Lott/Dems so nothing could be rammed through the Senate but they have the 60 with the three turncoats. It used to be 51 but they made all those quirky rules which have never been rescinded as far as I know.

Corker needs to get out it was procedural. If I was him, I would make a major announcement tomorrow when I voted against the bill and make sure it made every newspaper and news program in TN.

You're right - I was so angry a few minutes ago that I wanted to march to his office and personally deck him!

My apologies are in order - it appears I practiced "ready - fire - aim" on this one. :-)

I thought everyone should know as well but after reading comments I have to agree they need to change to debate. I am constantly amazed at the lack of knowledge of how Government works.

It is if we can’t pull a filibuster.

We can't because Senate procedures say that a vote of 60 to end debate does just that, ends debate. It's ready for the vote tomorrow. It's very sad because Republicans could have prevented this monstrosity, but 3 of them chose not to do so.
