Vanity: Fox News Says Palin Did Not Know Africa Was Continent, Not Country

Carl Cameron just said McCain campaign shocked to discover Sarah Palin did not realize Africa was a continent, believing instead that it was a country. She did not know the countries in NAFTA. She refused offered preparation for the Couric interview and threw temper tantrums over adverse press.

Wow. Dumping on Sarah in a big way. Shep asked how on Earth the McCain camp could have ended up picking such a dope (not exact words, but sense of what he said).

They did point out she seemed to help the polling numbers.

I knew this was going to be the template, but I was surprised at the level of nastiness on Fox News. Looks like elements of the McCain campaign is determined to make her the scapegoat for the loss. (Couldn't have been anything about the man at the top of the ticket.)

That’s a wonderfully conservative thing - not killing babies.

But, she wants federal money to help raise her baby. That’s socialism.

Speaking of comparisons to Ronald Reagan, guess who called Jindal “the next Ronald Reagan:” Rush Limbaugh.

Call me a “ditto head”!

No. Mitt Romney installed socialist Healthcare=ROMNEYcare,
which he wanted to expand to Hezb’allah.

Gov. Palin by contrast is a capitalist.

You are a few slices a bread short of a sandwich again.

Here’s the GOP rules and those elected by the convention delegates as leaders: http://www.gop.com/About/RNCCounsel.htm

http://www.gop.com/About/PartyLeadership.htm

Rules seem a little vague on nomination to elect process. I’m going to my next GOP county meeting. I’ve got to sniff this out more.

"it was a true or false question on “Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader."

In the debate, she obviously knew that Darfur is in Sudan. So the idea she didn't know Africa is a continent sounds phony. Maybe Madden thought she wasn't up to speed and tossed out the comment as a hyperbolic. I wish I had the transcript of the debate, there may have been a wider reference to Africa.

Umm, I don’t think managing two crisis during two hurricanes is resume-building. That’s actually doing something — it’s called being a competent Governor.

There were plenty of lessons learned from Katrina on all levels--federal, state, and local--and the two hurricanes didn't compare to Katrina in terms of damage and severity. I am not trying to downplay his performance, but it was not remarkably different from other governors in the region. Perry did a great job as well. Itr was just a matter of activating existing plans.

Palin has done similar things in reducing taxes, ethics reform, etc. She is also the country's most popular governor.

Do you honestly think that Palin can out-debate Obama? Please. We need someone who’s a smart (emphasis on smart) conservative who can out-debate the heck out of Obama.

Hell yes, especially with a few years of experience to get ready. Are you implying she is not smart? She sure as hell did a better job than Biden despite not being a Washington insider and with just a few weeks to prepare. Obama had 19 Dem debates in the primaries in preparation for the three with McCain. Huckabee, Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, and Hunter could have wiped the floor with Obama in the debates. McCain is the worst possible person we could have put up against him.

Palin is far from past. She now has more name recognition than Jindal. Palin has achieved national celebrity status. Relatively few Americans know anything about Jindal.

Did anyone in 2004 think Obama was going to be the Dem nominee for President, much less becoming the President in 2008? My point is that just because Jindal is unknown now doesn’t mean that he can’t be the nominee in 2012. Trust me, there are enough conservatives out there who are willing to raise money for him or support him... even now. Not being well-know is not a big obstacle if you have 4 years to change that.

I promise this will be the last Jindal-boosting posting (I’m sure everyone is sick of my posting as it is!). An excerpt from a local New Orleans article today — it’s very interesting and reveals much Jindal’s attractiveness:

Jindal blamed this year’s GOP’s losses on the party straying from the themes of fiscal conservatism, anti-corruption and policy innovation that worked in the previous decade. “You can’t beat something with nothing, “ Jindal said. “For too long it seemed the Republican message was, ‘vote for Republicans because the other side is worse.’ And that’s simply not a good enough reason to win elections.”

Ornstein, of the American Enterprise Institute, said states likely will continue to be crucibles for experimentation during Barack Obama’s administration, as the new president will inherit record budget deficits that will make it tough for him to fulfill his ambitious domestic agenda. And that, in turn, could work to Jindal’s advantage. “We’re not going to have the resources or the votes (in Washington) to do sweeping health care changes, “ Ornstein said.

Allying both wings

Should Jindal enter the national fray, Republicans will be hoping he can help reconcile a party that occasionally has been riven by dissent between social conservatives and those who consider economic issues such as spending and taxes to be paramount.

“He is one of the few Republican politicians that has been able to fuse the two parts of the Republican Party, the social conservatives and the business conservatives, “ said Wayne Parent, an LSU political science professor.

Africa nonsense

Please recall that Sarah grew up in an Assmebly of God church, and later became involved in the Bible Church movement. These are denominational groups intensively missionary-oriented with very strong connections to Africa. The idea that she would live in that milieu and not know that Africa is a continent is like saying a religious Jewish kid didn't know where the Mediterranean was. It's simply not believable.

Moderates have taken over the party. They ridicule and try to destroy anyone that is a real conservative. We need to kick out the moderates- they really aren’t even moderates they really have more in common with lefties. That is why they spend more time “reaching across the aisle” and “compromising” with the dims than they do listening to their voters.

#1. Yeah, I signed up in August, I wasn’t born in August, jackhole.
#2. If you had any reading comprehension skills you would understand my comment was NOT an attack on Governor Palin, it was an indictment of some of the RNC powers at be who tried to cut her off at the knees.

"Saul Alinsky tactics. They weren’t kidding when they said Obama was already running for reelection.

This story was crafted to penetrate deep into the electorate, current voters, and future voters who are not even old enough to register."

A very astute observation!

It's amazing how easily the public are manipulated by the MSM.

Palin is obviously very bright.

In addition, I don't think the MSM elite ever forgave her for her trenchant remark at her "introductory" speech that launched the McCain/Palin ticket:

"I'm not going to Washington to seek their (the media elite) good opinion. I'm going to Washington to serve the people of the country,"

What she said hit them where they live, so of course they had to try and denigrate her as "uninformed" -- lest her words resonate too loudly with us commoners.

Fortunately, their smear-job will not effect the more observant among us. STE=Q

I remember that, it was the morning of their swearing in and the media was getting an early start promoting them. As I remember it Gore actually asked the guide- And who are these people? And was pointing to Washington’s bust as he said it. I almost fell out of my chair!! It was as if he didn’t recognize any of them.

Temper tantrum was the identical description used to throw stalwart conservative Katherine Harris under the bus in 2006. The similarities are striking, and I have the memory of an elephant.

I miss Katherine Harris, and I am SO angry at the way these "unnamed sources" are scapegoating Gov. Sarah Palin!

A little more on the missionary thing. I don’t mean “missionary” as in a pair of white-shirted guys cruising around suburbia. Most AOG and Bible churches of the period of her growing up had (many still have) world maps in the lobby showing where “their” missionaries serve.

I grew up in such a church. The giant missionary map was in the sanctuary with little blinking lights for eachof the 52 missionary families our church supported (50% of all collections went to missions, mostly overseas). I spent many a sermon studying the map on the wall.

Again, there is no way this Africa comment is factual.
