To those in and around the commercial nuclear power business, the clear choice on Tuesday, 4Nov2008 are the Republican candidates for Congress, and particularly John McCain for President. The only politician who has been more outspoken than John McCain regarding new nuclear is Vice President Cheney. At stake are appointments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the federal judges. Those judges will hear the suits filed by environmentalists and anti-development interests that seek to stop new nuclear power construction as well as shutdown existing plants like Vermont Yankee. Republicans in Congress and President Bush have managed to bring energy legislation that underpins the new nuclear projects in this country. That same legislation clears many hurdles to building the grid infrastructure. Leftist plans for wind turbines and other intermittent sources of electric power will make the power grid unreliable because the system is designed for steady base-load power. A nuclear build program will employ thousands. We see the proof commercial nuclear power is safe everyday. The record is clear, commercial nuclear power is one of the most successful industries in terms of any safety measure that can be made. The Republican politicians that have supported the nuclear industry deserve your support. John McCain believes in the goodness of the nuclear power industry. Barrack Obama still needs to be convinced it is safe.

Doesn’t this affect the steel industry? Don’t they use
coal to make steel?

Not to worry, we'll be able to buy plenty from COMMUNIST CHINA.
(/sarc)

I'm sure this initiative is part of something like Obama's
"Socialistic Leaders Helping Socialistic Leaders" Five Year Plan.

And he probably got the idea at Columbia/Harvard after hearing
about the innovative (snicker!) method in which the USSR
"assisted" (KEPT AFLOAT) Cuba during The Cold War.
And Obama probably said "Wow! That sounds like a plan!".

Nevertheless, a lot of people who work in coal are still committed to Oprah’s Obama. It’s the triumph of liberal hope over reality.

How Obama will become richer than any other despot the world
has known.

Shorted USX, NUE, Peabody, Consol and all US steel/coal stocks.

Bought buckets of Mainland Chinese steel and coal stocks.

He's gonna' show the world that Hillary was just an amateur
with her nice market trades "back in the day".

We can use this keyword: bankruptcoalindustry

To see the various threads/articles covering this bs.

We have young relatives in management jobs across the nation with union employees. Union members, who hunt, with their own side businesses or spouses with small business. The insane loyalty to 0baMa0 by the union members drives our young relatives up the wall.

“He is going to have fun trying to locate all those windmills. That is not without problems. There are some a ways away from us and its caused some major problems and delivering them DESTROYS roads.”

Thanks. I hadn’t heard about the damage to roads. Now that you mention it, I’m not surprised. Windmills are very large and probably very heavy.

Some of this debate hinges on aesthetics. For example, many arguments against carbon dioxide include a picture of smoke from a smoke stack. The image makes people say “yuck.” Carbon dioxide is invisible. The pictures are dishonest, yet powerful.

Aesthetics are very subjective. I’m sure some people see windmills in TV ads and think they look nice. All the nicer if they really make a large contribution. I think windmills are ugly. They are huge and take up a lot of space. Some don’t spin. They contribute little energy. The maintenance bill will probably be great.

Windmills today, remind me of solar panels at an earlier date. I remember solar panels at a government installation in St. Louis. They were on buildings with pipes going too and fro. Nice idea. The realty is that there was often broken glass and liquid about. I’m sure the installation received kudos for taking free delivery of the panels. But the benefit was less than the cost of maintenance.

Google ‘coal fired furnaces’. I don’t think many steel plants still use coal, but perhaps a few still have coal fired smelt furnaces. Hope this helps.
