Large and dangerous Hurricane Ike approaching the Upper Texas coast. Mandatory evacuations began in earnest Thursday as an estimated one million coastal residents headed inland. There were widespread reports of gas stations running out of fuel.
The National Weather Service posted dire storm surge predictions of 20-25 ft storm surge along the coast and bay heads. Hurricane warnings covered a 400 mile swath of the Gulf of Mexico.
Wholesale gasoline prices spiked 30 percent Thursday, or nearly $1 a gallon, out of fear of what Ike might do.

I don't know about Fox.....but if Ike can rid us of Whoraldo, I say "Go Ike....and take Whoraldo with you!"

During Gustav, did you hear him tell the cameraman, repeatedly, to climb onto a wall over which the water was crashing?
The cameraman was smarter than Geraldo and never did it.

My son goes to school in Lake Charles and he has gone to Lafayette to get away from the storm. Can anyone tell me if that is far enough away to be safe? From the information I see so far I cannot tell since I do not live anywhere near this area. TIA

22 stranded on freighter south of Houston (abt 90 miles). Coast Guard says they will not attempt rescue, as conditions are too dangerous. Freighter is in probable path of Ike.

Hi neighbor.. We’ve got food/water, propane/charcoal for about 3 days, I’ve got 3 vehicles, all topped up... and I’ve got a ac/dc converter in my truck that can power a small appliance if necessary. However, if we’re not back in business after 3-days, we’re out of here.
I worry about Texas City behind the levees and lose ships in the bay. Nightmare scenario.

I haven’t stated this on here before.. But, I am actually living in Louisville, Ky now... so, I will only get WET (in a few days).
However, I spent the first 42 years of my life living on the coast... Angleton, Texas is “home”... but, I’ve lived in Friendswood, Texas City, and Sulphur, La. I still have plenty of family and friends down there.. and, I come to the area ~ 2 times a month for business.
My heart has never left Texas.. or Angleton.
we had the mother of all sand storms yesterday here in Phoenix........a wall of dirt 35 miles long and 2500 ft high rolled thru at 30 mph
yes... Lafayette will be better than Lake Charles... Much higher... and less wind.

The overall “best model” is reputed to be GFDL - right now, the animation has Ike getting almost up to Cat.2 in the Great Lakes, and Cat.4 now. Fortunately NHC ignores it and has forecasters who can think.

I wish I could shove this down the throat of everyone who bases everything about “climate change” “global warming” being “settled science” when that is completely based on computer models.

And his freaking out about the corps of engineer guy swimming, Whorealdo is dangerous, seriously, a Darwin award candidate.
He should be very safe in Lafayette. If the storm were to go in as far east as Port Arthur/Sabine River, he’d still be fine. Lafayette is about 65-70 miles east of Lake Charles.
