Official Election Day 2005 Watch [Live Thread]
Shameless Vanity Post | November 8, 2005 | BillyBoy

Posted on 11/07/2005 11:46:41 PM PST by BillyBoy

My Fellow FReepers,

As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.

THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.

Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?

Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!

Too late for absentee vote. Don't have a boat.... Can't afford a plane ticket.... Swim fast?

FWIW, check my profile page.

It's not updated because I've been out doing ground work. But we've been running Virginia Campaign Threads for months.

Carry on.

Will vote for Forrester in NJ. Polls show a close race. Turnout will decide the outcome.

There are 11 districts in Virginia.

Of course, none of which are having elections today. But thanks for the link. It'll be helpful for the other races.

I'll be at Kilgore HQ in Richmond tonite.

Both Kilgore and Kaine are throwing victory parties tonight. One of them is going to be a very depressing party.

Got a chance to talk briefly with Kilgore last week - he said to make sure we came to the Richmond Convention Center tonight - the folks across the street at the Marriott aren't going to have much to celebrate!

I keep looking over at foxnews.com for their usual "You Decide 2005" page, but it isn't up this year (yet?)... blah.

And, the tin foil hats are already out on this election. The new dem line is that if they lose, it was a rigged election using the Diebold machines, and conservatives just tricked everyone because only the polls are accurate.

Scratch that.

Not, B.C.

What the heck is the name of that comic strip that takes place during medieval times?

I voted in California this morning and remain cautiously optimistic for a Pubbie victory. If not a total victory, at least a substantial victory. Any kind of victory provides momentum for more ballot initiatives next year. We need to bypass the state legislature and take the vote directly to the people. Next year I would like to see substantive public employee pension reform. The effort failed this year, but it only a matter of time before we have to face this issue. Otherwise the public employee unions will bankrupt California.

BTW, I voted no on 79 & 80 and yes on everything else.

That's exactly how I voted. How much do want to bet that if anyone of 73 through 78 passes, there will be a court challenge to overturn the will of California voters. The liberals will have one their black robed lackies issue an injunction. Then the real fight starts.

I'm very worried about the stinking court. Especially after 187 was overturned. That made me furious!

My whole polling place was filled with union men and a few female nurses. Guys all had their union jackets and sweatshirts on and the women, scrubs from the hospitals.

I recall going to a union meeting where the rep was actually standing at the podium hawking Gore's book.

Nothing sickens me more than ANY group soliciting money from me for one purpose and using for one I disagree with. Bite me, United Way - I give to my local Boy Scout troop. No, that BS about them allowing you to 'choose' where the money goes does not convince me - I know your accountants.

Why not simply let the voters draw districts - any plan with 20% support gets on the ballot. For example, if a district is drawn up that is basically Orange County, then a petition drive is undertaken with voters who are eligible to vote in Orange County to get is supported, it is on the ballot.
