Official Election Day 2005 Watch [Live Thread]
Shameless Vanity Post | November 8, 2005 | BillyBoy

Posted on 11/07/2005 11:46:41 PM PST by BillyBoy

My Fellow FReepers,

As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.

THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.

Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?

Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!

It's mighty nice to see an out of stater who sees thru the gimmickry Californian politicians love to indulge themselves in as they make voters do the work the politicians were elected to do.

See ya tomorrow night.

You're full of crap, BillyBoy.
Vote YES on 73 - 78.   NO on 79 & 80.

Even the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association agrees. (on 74, 75, 76, 77 & 80 -- they take no position on 73, 78 & 79.

Hope for a good day in California, if not great day (unfortunately, I'm sure a few of these propositions will fail no matter who will turn out. But I do hope for quite a few to pass).

I'll stick with CA State Sen. Tom McClintock's recommendations:

YES on 73, 74, 75, 76, 77. NO on 78, 79, 80.

I voted at 6:05AM in Virginia this morning. I estimate that I was the 50th person to vote - I'd call it "steady". My area's heavily GOP.

It's been raining on and off in the San Francisco Bay Area right now.
Hopefully it will keep up throughout the day.

I read the details of Prop 77, and I'll be honest - it sounds terrible. Can you provide a link so I can read what McClintock's views on it are and why he recommends a YES vote?

My husband says it sounds like a drinking game! LOL

I found this web site for Texas vote totals.
Although it has no numbers yet maybe they will start to show up later. I voted early last week, it took 6 minutes.

Fine print synopsis of Prop 77 (the drinking game):

Major Steps to Select Redistricting Panel Under Prop 77

1. Judicial Council (an administrative body of the court system) collects list of retired judges willing to serve on a panel. The judges must not have:

2. Judicial Council randomly selects a pool of 24 judges from the list of volunteers. The two larges political parties must have equal representation.

3. The four legislative leaders (two each from the majority and minority parties) nominate a total of 12 judges from the pool. The leaders each nominate 3 judges with party affiliations different than their own. Each leader is then able to eliminate one of the nominated judges.

4. From the nominates judges remaining on the list, three judges are selected at random to serve as the panel. Each of the two largest political parties must have at least one representative.

5. The selected judges pledge, in writing, to not run for offices affected by the districts they draw or accept public jobs (other than judicial or teaching) for the next 5 years.

More fine print:

This measure amends the California Constitution (without a vote by the people) to change the redistricting process. If voters reject redistricting plane, process repeats, but officials elected under rejected plan serve full terms.
