Official Election Day 2005 Watch [Live Thread]
Shameless Vanity Post | November 8, 2005 | BillyBoy

Posted on 11/07/2005 11:46:41 PM PST by BillyBoy

My Fellow FReepers,

As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.

THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.

Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?

Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!

Looks like the number of votes counted is going down! ;-) We can only assume that is an error. Kaine seemed to suddenly take the lead very quickly. Let's hope this is a reporting error.

How are the candidates for atty gen? I assume we should be rooting for a GOP victory there.

The numbers are screwed up.

Yeah, that's kind of the point.

Not only does Virginia have 95 counties, it has dozens of independent cities, a situation unique in the US, as far as I know. So if you see, for instance, Republicans running strong in a county which surrounds a city, don't get too excited until you see the returns from the city, which are calculated separately.

Arlington will be more than 60% - it's totally lib-land.

I don't think there is an error - a lot more precintcs reported in quickly and there you go - Kilgore trails by about 6pts.

DUmmies seem to report the initial numbers with Kilgore up big actually had the names reversed. Kaine has been up all along, but his lead is narrowing.

Grain of salt and all that.

Some other independent cities do exist, but not nearly to the extent of Virginia. (Most of them are amalgamated city-counties)

Democrats have been losing and losing and losing since 1994 and Bush has gained seats in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

Given it's NJ and Calif I'll give the Dems those. Heck, I hope they go Dem bigger than ever and just speed up their demise into hell.

Virginia would be a bad loss but given so many libs live in the Northern area who work in DC I'm not surprised. I won't be surprised if Kaine wins only because Kilgore is/was a lousy candidate. Can't the GOP find better?

And doesn't this replace Mark Warner, another Dem? Virginia seems to like Dem governors. I guess they work better with the RINO state legislature.

They way Wolf Blitzer breathlessly framed this election night in Virginia as an ant-Bush story made me suspect they had exit polls showing Kaine winning and didn't share this info. They kept saying it was about Bush. Not a good signl

''somethings up with they guy''.........He's a ''has been'' who wants to run for something to make himself feel important again!....... He absolutely HATES Arnold!.....Personally ,I don't believe he's got the guts to,,,,,so instead he trails Arnold around town like an idiot!...... In his hey day he had quite a few scandals with women, abortions, suicide attempts etc.Stuff that would come back to haunt him in an election. Thats why I don't feel he would ever run for anything. I also believe he is a coward cause he makes speeches at REALLY HARD (SARC) audiences like in front of a teachers union on the campus of Berkeley, and they give him a warm response so he feels he can now contend with Arnold.Screw him! He and that meathead Rob Reiner make me sick! If they want to run then run.Other wise they should STFU!........There I feel better!

That fails to explain Kilgores totals going down from 309K to 250K from one report to the next.
