It is now getting dark in Paris and in all of France(appx. 6:40 PM Paris Time), and if there are any French FR lurkers(lurquers), this may be the thread to post your reports about any further violence.
It seems the French govt. is impotent in it's response to what seems are jihadist thugs and it seems the American media has put a news blackout filter to what is really happening, so as not to embarass their heroes, Chirac et al.
So any news reports or personal reports from what happens tonight are welcome, and don't worry about broken English, reports in French are welcome also, I have no doubt someone can translate.
I really dread putting up a live thread about such a matter, but it seems that the American MSM is following French govt. orders to play down to what it seems is an insurrection.
Germany next, Britian next. President Bush, call your office.
Tolik has posted the latest Victor Davis Hanson oped/essay on the danger of Jihadist Fascism around the world. What VDH said in this essay, has a direct bearing on what is happening in France.

Either the jihadists really are crazy or they apparently think that they have a shot at destabilizing, or at least winning concessions from, the United States, Europe, India, and Russia all at once.

Euro vs $$$
This will be detrimental to the American economy as the Euro is destroyed and our exports are hurt.

The one thing that is wrong with the map is that Sweden is left intact..
I asked BurbankKarl about this and he said it's a crime in many European countries to monitor police scanners, and they tend to be scrambled anyway (plus, in this case, we'd have to understand French). I am exasperated that we cannot get real front line reports from the MSM, and that there aren't News Choppers in the air tracking the action. We're literally on a 24-hour dinosaur media newscycle on this, except for the blogs. Where is the LIVE COVERAGE???!!!
You need to add the capitol city of the Islamic Republic of New Algeria . . . Parislamabad.
Would that there could be just one brave journalist or heck. . .even Larry King. . .to ask Hillary; 'what did she mean by that'. . .
Of course. ..they would have to join those who must 'watch their back'. . .and their pets. . .the tires of their car. . .riding alone on an elevator. . .
Soooooo; probably we will never see Hillary challenged. . .ever.
Thanks for putting up this thread.
Preliminary thoughts:
1. Reports of injuries have been almost non-existent. That is simply not possible.
It should be easy to check local hospitals, even if the media choose not to do so. Especially useful would be reports from people who WORK at French hospitals.
2. In a related vein, reports of attacks on non-Muslims have been almost non-existent.
It is easy to see why the French government would wish to suppress this, but it is virtually certain that Muslim rioters will target non-Muslims if given the opportunity.
3. The number of reported arrests is extraordinarily low for a problem of this magnitude.
Perhaps the police have been told not to arrest rioters, in which case the failure to control the riots is easy to understand. If so, it should be obvious by now that this approach is not working. The number of arrests will have to rise substantially before this will stop.
The jails will quickly fill up, if they have not already. So... How many rioters have been arrested, and where are they being put?
4. What concessions will the government make in order to put the lid back on?
As a starter, my prediction is that the government will offer more autonomy to the "disadvantaged" zones. No police interference, repeal of the anti-Burka rules, informal approval for sharia law in certain places, etc. And, of course, more money to help lift them out of their "despair".
TERRORISM NOTE: France most certainly has a core of trained, well equipped, and fanatic terrorists. Thus far they have not shown their hand. My bet is that they are hoping for a major police show of force, leading to Muslim deaths, and thus an excuse for revenge.
At that point they will launch a wave of terrorist attacks. What happens next is anybody's guess.
Wait ... wait for it ... any minute now ... Paris is going to crack down ... wait ... I think it's coming ... soon ... any minute now ... wait ...
How is the burning of an average of 500 vehicles a night going to hurt anyone's economy? Figure over 5000 cars here. At 20K a pop, thats some number that's like 100 million dollars. It can only help, as the French folks who have lost their cars now have the opportunity to buy new cars. Some of those cars will be American cars. They will need some busses and ambulances, too, from what I have read.
How about Lurchers?
"It's time for your medication, flippo. Now are you going to bend over or do I have to call the orderlies?"

Please know ahead of time that there is going to be Bush bashing here in Panama on Monday. But realize that the ones doing the bashing are a bunch of communist hoodlums and not the average citizen on the street. In other words, the MSM will make it appear that all the citizens of Panama are anti Bush.
In fact, there has been no anti American or Bush bashing in the local press. It seems that folks are pleased to have the President of the United States visit Panama.
Yesterday, during a Panamanian holiday parade, a student tore up the American flag in front of the Panamanian presidents stand (box). The President didnt know where to look and shook his head in disgust. A local newspaper today came down hard on the student, and the school says it will take reprisal against the little idiot.
Scary--but it's happening before our very eyes.
Spain would whip up another Reconquista....France needs a Le Reconqueste
