Harriet Miers' humanity has never been in question ... has never been attacked ... and, has never been the problem. Caligula's horse and lesbian for starts? I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt for now, but if you post that again I will prove it a bald-faced lie.
I have posted it again. I do not know where you hang out, but I have not seen anything on Free Republic, until now, that has called Miers either Caligula's horse, or a lesbian ... until you posted it just now.
There has been enough real and important stuff to say about Miers, based upon her own spoken words, her mediocre writings, her involvement in IOLTA, her unimpressive responses to questions by senators, and her general unsuitability by temperament and background to become a Justice of the SCOTUS for the rest of her life ... that it has not been necessary to mount an ad hominem attack.
I speak only truth. It's over. Move on.

You KEEP MISSING THE POINT, she deserved to be HEARD, it was her right as an American. They are ALL missing the point. The President had the Constitutional right to nominate her, and she had the right to be heard.
And now that is gone..........and they're slapping each other on the back as though they're good Americans.
Miers has been successfully Borked by the right.

Agreed. Impossible to suggest they are unconfirmable if they've never been nominated.
Oh, sure, Some Senators will bluff that they will withhold support but when challenged in the public eye? Most of them are cowards. Time to call their bluff.
Also, most of us were content with Roberts. Most of us do not have a 'make or break' candidate that should he not select, would infuriate us. Most of us simply want the best nominee available selected with a track record of constitutional scholarship and appropriate Judicial philosophy. Notice I don't include "conservative". Conservatism is an ideology. We're not interested in a mere "yes" vote. We want the Constitution upheld. This should be a common denominator among both parties, sadly it seems the Left has abdicated this same desire as they have abdicated the traditional desire to see our Country win a war.

Because Senators were also pouncing on and demanding privleged documents.
To: cake_crumb
Actually, for the entire GOP it would be a BRILLIANT move. The African American community (and a substantial percentage of them don't trust whitey anyway) will see the left in all their hatred and nasty, spiteful attmpts to destroy Judge Brown and a bunch will move away from the party of the left forever.

Very interesting. Thanks.
I find it odd, however, that the Federation of American Scientists maintains that report.

I'm happy being in the "wrong crowd" on this one; I like the company.Me too. We're not so vitriolic and sour until we think we've gotten our way.

I agree with you about the mediacrats (great and accurate term). You put it in words so well.
To: Dog
Dog..........I'm not talking about you. Stop being so defensive.
I have defended anyone's right to disagree with this nomination.
You're not stupid. You know the kind of creeps that I'm talking about.

I suppose we will just have to disagree regarding our recollection then. I do certainly remember many classless insults of Miers on my side. But however baseless (no pun intended) and rude these claims were, they were not an insult to the freepers supporting her. Silly posts attempting to say we should now vote for Hillary, however idiotic, were not direct insults to freepers supporting Miers.
I will grant that my side immediately attacked Bush and Miers. Then your side attacked US, not JRB or someone we supported, but us. There is a difference between insulting someone you support and insulting you, at least in my opinion.
Oh, I was called every name in the book, and just today someone called me dumb. I may not be all that intelligent, but I do like to be treated with respect. I was not the only one called names. Indeed, every one of the main pro-Miers posters was attacked.

No, read my posts. She had a right to hearings. She WOULD HAVE HAD HEARINGS HAD SHE NOT QUIT. She probably would have been confirmed.
I thought it was a bad nomination, but it was Bush's to make. He has his role, we have ours. Nobody's rights were violated. Not hers or ours. Don't be so dramatic.
To: Wolfstar
You do realize, also....that the ones that were hateful and vociferous from the start....Kristol, Frum, Ingraham, Coulter...
THEY have never put themselves in a position to have to be elected to do what they do....they are what, to dumb?, to uneducated?, too poor?....
How about too chicken....and yet they can say some really cruel things about this woman...
I don't know how many apologists for those pundits..even Rush...thought about the fact that NONE of them or most freepers have ever had to put their reputations on line.

Thanks for revealing your true character, Rutles. I'm sure we all want to be just like you. If I wanted everyone to be just like me I'd support cloning. And so far, the only clones I see around here are the ones with the number "43" scrawled into their scalps.

You gotta admit that it would be an excellent opportunity to cause more than a few liberal's heads to explode.

Janice Rogers Brown would be a good pick IMHO
To: puroresu
If the Democrats filibuster, they'll soon be flooded with phone calls and e-mails running five-to-one against them. That might not matter to Teddy or Chucky, but to a Democrat Senator from Florida, Louisiana, the Dakotas, Nebraska, or Arkansas, it's a different matter entirely. The 'Rats don't want this fight. We should. Of course, our victory would be contingent upon our side actually fighting back. We did so with Thomas. I'd love to get Bayh outta here!

She wasn't in Bush's "work group", he hired her from the outside for a number of different positions. The president was willing to release some documents, Miers didn't want to do so.
