The "accusations" were merely a recitation of Miers' own words and actions ... they were never "baseless" as they were well grounded in fact and were "based" on Miers' own spoken words, involvement in IOLTA, and her own writings.
It is a stretch to say that the truth is only true if Senate hearings have commenced. I am trying very hard not to laugh at that, but only because I know that you were trying to be so serious when you posted it.
I think that "crony" line is what finally got me angriest...
When I hear "conservative pundits" and talk show hosts echoing a word or phrase that had its roots at a DNC "talking points"...I cross them off my list of people that are thinking for themselves...instead they are throwing around invectives...trying to slander or smear.
I'm sure that's what they are waiting for. They are preparing for a major battle as we speek in their Capitol Hill offices, I'm sure.
Democrats are the minority. They have no capitol.

The Democrats are deathly afraid he'll nominate someone they vehemently oppose that no one doubts will firmly well uphold the Constitution. They have begun their talking points to again attempt a "consensus nominee".
A united enthusiastic base hurts the Democrats in '06. They have more seats endangered, in conservative leaning states.
And, btw, I trust the President generally. I do allow people make mistakes. Sometimes huge ones. The President made one with this nomination. It has been corrected. The right nominee will heal the split instaneously.

I think Mfume is probably going to lose, short of some spectacular revelation being disclosed that impacts Cardin's chances negatively.
I don't know if Steele's charisma-or impeccable conservative credentials-will be enough to compete with the still overwhelming advantage Democrats have in that state.
While I think race might play a (marginal) role in that election, I'm not so sure that it will be dispositive.
I have the same feeling with regard to Blackwell in Ohio-probably my favorite politician in the country-who is going to be burdened by the baggage of Bob Tax, and his merry band of whiny RINOs, in spite of his attempts to chart a different course for the Ohio Republican Party.

IF she is pro-life, I would like her to replace Harriet Miers.
I want a pro-life, strict constructionist on the SC...........which is the reason I didn't oppose Miers. If JRB is pro-life (I have heard that she is not, so that needs to be checked out), she is my pick.
But, unlike others here.......the ones childishly gloating....... I have a deep respect for the President. He knew about Miers, and he trusted her. I will support whomever he chooses.

Then it will be time to blame Bush for making the mistake of nominating this "loser".
I'm certain they'll be chiming that refrain before too long. I am certain the RINO's had a firm look of what awaits them, and it isn't pretty if they don't support a good nomination. Further, the red state Dems have to be shaking this morning. Their nerves must be frayed at the idea of what might be coming.
