just breaking!!!!!!!!
I didn't. You said that changing parties doesn't mean beliefs change. You don't know any such thing about anyone who has changed parties.
Prove what? Prove what we would do in a hypothetical situation? All you need to do to find proof is read through our arguments. We don't say that an Ivy League pedigree is required. We say that some proven originalist intellectual firepower on Constitutional issues is required. Big difference. Are you suggesting that only Ivy Leaguers have intellectual firepower? We certainly aren't.
Now there's a name out of right field :-)
Examining Miers speeches, writings, and prior experience is "airing dirty laundry?"
There was no evidence whatsoever, Miers was a conservative, or even a Republican. The latest evidence reveals quite the contrary.
This was a poor and dangerous pick by the President and now we have an opportunity for a new beginning.
>> Anyone who called for the President to withdraw the nomination prior to hearings IMHO was against an up or down vote. <<
A ridiculous assertion. Blocking an up-or-down vote is an issue of resorting to undemocratic tactics to block the legitimate expression of the will of the majority of the Senate. Calling for the President to withdraw a nomination is advising the president to begin damage control. We'd rather the nomination be withdrawn than thrill the Democrats by forcing the issue to a televised internecine quarrel. It was our way of saying, "let's settle this spat while we're at home, rather than letting it turn into a knock-down drag-out fight in front of the neighbors."
It never ceases to amaze me when FReepers tell other FReepers what their own motives were.
Thanks, Alamo Girl!
It depends on what you mean by "play nice"! :-)
I'm not arguing that we should ignore corruption in our party or be as dishonest as the Democrats. But we need to fight back. When Kennedy gave that speech smearing Bork ("Robert Bork's America is a land where police kick down doors in bedroom raids, where women can be forcibly sterilized," etc.) we should have totally obliterated him. He's a very prominent representative of his party. If he can deliver a speech that scathing, why can't someone in our party do the same?
Why couldn't someone of status in the Republican Party respond with something like this: "Ted Kennedy's America is a land where forceps are driven into infant skulls, where muderers and rapists walk free on technicalities, where Bibles are ripped from the hands of school children, and where a young woman is left to die alone in a submerged car while the driver runs around screaming for an attorney."
But we didn't respond like that. WE BARELY RESPONDED AT ALL. And our lack of response, our totally defensive posture, only emboldened the Democrats to expand their bullying tactics.
Not at all ... in fact, it has been pointed out to me that Janice Rogers Brown, whom I admire greatly, is too much of a civil libertarian and may not be strong enough in the War on Terror.
I have actually considered all of that ... and have now concluded that Michael Luttig would be a more appropriate nominee.
I really, really like your Sen.Coburn....he is really putting up, and not shutting up!!!
BTW...I, like you, was not happy with Miers...but, you are classy...and didn't get personal with other freepers that did tend to back her...or at least back President Bush's right to nominate her.
THank you....and if you ever get a chance to visit with Sen. Coburn, please tell him that he is getting a big fan club on FR!!!
What are your thoughts on how this looks from the Dem point of view. I fear that the administration appears weaker now than before.
The Pres can't help that she withdrew, I know, but the implications of her doing so concern me.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Laura Ingraham has it on her site. (I have not read THIS thread yet, so sorry if I have duplicated here.)
The conservative branch of the Republican Party is STRONG!
We have big guns and unlimited resolve - and Bush probably wants us on his side again.
Nominate Janice Rogers Brown, and let us unleash the dogs of hell upon the liberal Democrats...
We are ready to fight - is Bush finally ready to team with us for the good of the country?
Precisely. No one, saving maybe a couple, relished fighting the W.H. and the President. No one enjoyed this separation. We will not, however, sacrifice what is right for any man. I feel a great sense of relief this morning, and yes, I'm happy because now we can get back on coarse. And I thank Ms. Mier's for her withdrawal. And I thank the President for re-affirming my opinion of him that I admit had been shaky the past few weeks.
I'm ready to go after the Dems & RINO's now. Let's go.
This is about the cause....we have a chance of a lifetime....that can be passed up.
I may be the last person standing who wants to CONSERVE the role of the "common man" in government, but so be it.
You start in again on your idiot's crusade to bring down Reagan's legacy in your fool's quest to make Bush look better and I'm on you like white on rice, Jack.
Everytime.
I have every faith and confidence the President will come out on top after this.
What about Immigration reform and of course, CLOSING THE BORDER!... This is HUGE as far as I am concerned. :). Your point 1 might include this, but this issue deserves a whole point by itself :)
PEOPLE, WE better start making some NOISE ABOUT CLOSING THE BORDER AND IMMIGRATION REFORM!!!!!! :)
