Reagan had a proven track record of being conservative when he ran for president, a position which is not held for a lifetime.

In fact the Democrat Pary that Reagan left in 1962 was far more conservative than the Democrat Party of the late eighties.

As Reagan said the Democrat Party left me, I didn't leave it. Furthermore, most of his views were conservative when he left the Democrat party and became more so over time.

Comparing Reagan in any regard to Miers is ridiculous.

"Frankly, I don't see much difference between what was done to this woman and what liberals do to conservatives."

Precisely. And because of that there are conservatives that I will have nothing to do with from this time forward.

If so, that would eliminate Pres. Reagan, wouldn't it?

Specter needs to be read the Riot Act.

BTW, can anyone imagine the Democrats allowing a conservative member of their party to even sit on the judiciary committee, let alone serve as chairman?

Damn, I'm sure glad we get all these brownie points for being the party that plays nice (even as our rivals break every rule in the book).

True, I'm not pulling my punches, but this is a fight that needs to be had. The stakes are simply too high for the President to play the "trust me" card on a candidate that Harry Reid recommended. We've gone down that road before and we know where it leads.

Check my post history and you will see that I've been steadfast in my support for the President despite my disagreement with him over the borders and the spending issues. On THIS issue, however, I simply cannot go along.

Damn straight, Mike. I'll be fuming even harder if he doesn't pick a rock ribbed conservative this time, and JRB is my personal favorite as well.

Careful, you might name one of those sucky Bush appointments.

Not all of his appointments were from within because he was unwilling or unable to find a remotely suitable candidate from within. But, I'm sure you knew I wasn't suggesting EVERY Bush appointment sucked. You're not that dense, I'm certain.

"To win, I think were all going to have to wait until 08. And at this rate, were going to need a damn good candidate, and a lot of luck."

Uh huh. And exactly why do you think this? In sentence, not talking point, format.

Reagan signed a pro-abortion bill as California governor as a Republican.

... I supported Miers solely on her being born-again, but what has transpired has happened for a reason. I am certainly not disappointed she withdrew....

Let's not be so sorry for her... the way she has conducted her life tells me she is more inclined to a life of privacy... She is the one that won... she will have a nice private life. The one for this position, in addition to qualifications, has to be a very tough person indeed and have to type of personality to actually enjoy the challenges and exposure of such a position. The SC is becoming more and more public every day!... and the responsibilities will be enormous

I am going to state here and now we need every last Conservative Republican or Conservative who votes Republican to defeat the Dems. This war of who is conservative and who is not is defeatist.

You keep your eyes on the goal of electing more Dr. Coburns's, George Allen's, etc., and to do that you will need every last conservative's votes are needed. We are the grassroots of the Republican Party and here in Oklahoma we showed the establishment what can happen by electing Dr. Tom to the Senate. Suggest other states do the same -- nominate good conservative candidates and the grassroots will get out and work 24/7 to get them confirmed or elected.

We win when we are united as a grassroots. We may not get 100% of what we want but we sure get more then any Dem candidate can offer. Telling one side or the other we don't need their votes is spin. We need every last vote we can find to vote Republican and elect a lot more conservatives to the Congress to stand up for us.

Judge Robert Bork? Sounds good to me!
I know, you're thinking of that "other" JRB, but I just had to have my fun.

Early in this process I compared it to having your daughter choose to marry someone you don't like. The question then became, "Do you try to talk her out of it? If so, in what tone of voice? If not, do you boycott the wedding over 'principle' and possibly lose your daughter and future granchildren forever?"

In that scenario, I would find out if my daughter truly loved him, and trust her judgment.

In reality, I have a couple of sons in law who I can't stand, but for the sake of my daughters and grandchildren we get along.

At least half the people that were against Harriet WERE evangelicals.

I'm sorry, but I do not buy that.

But JRB may be one of the ones that "pulled their names from consideration"

I hear you. The bad news is Senate Judiciary Chair Scottish Law (who opposes anyone who got the pardon from the filibuster getting a better court seat) and former Pubbie "Leader" Cave-A-Lott (who opposes conservative Justices "at this time") have already lined up against her.

Oh well; damn the RINOs and the RATs; Full Brown Ahead! 51 votes is a majority in any case.

Bush: Who's this?

Specter: This is Arlen.

Bush: What happened? Did we get straightened out?

Specter: We had a problem. We tried to do everything we could. You know what I mean. She's gone, and we couldn't do nothing about it.

Bush: What do you mean?

Specter: She's gone... She's gone. That's it

Bush:. I knew it! I can't f@!&ng believe it. They f@!&ng whacked her.

Andy Card: Are you all right?

Voiceover (George Will): It was revenge for David Souter... and a lot of other things.

Specter: That's that. There was nothing we could do about it.
