The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
Timing and location of this suicide blast are highly suspicious, but we'll have to see what information is released about this later. This may not be terror-related, but when combined with some other recent events and pieces of news around the world (including last night's Bali bombing) this doesn't look too good.
Better to exterminate the enemy with EXTREME PREJUDICE.
So, I'm an infidel? Yeah, I got a serious problem. It is called Islam, which differs greatly from yours - - stupidity...
Most are looking for 9/11 scale attacks, but I think suicide bombings with 1-3 people in a school/mall/church will probably become the norm. Cheap and psychologically devastating. Hope I'm wrong.
The weaseling and obfuscation from local officials and media in OKC have reached ridiculous proportions.
Besides the ridiculously obtuse KTUL headline, the yokel authorities pronounced the incident a simple suicide before this could conceivably have been determined from the facts. The national media are eloquent in their silence.
All this points to just one thing: the dead bomber is either a Muslim or a well-known peacenik.
All they are doing is saying it was a suicide bomber officially. Unofficially, they say there are two other people they want to question who left the scene. Since there was another bomb, would say it was a good chance there was at least one more and on local radio as well as from someone near the blast who was being interviewed when my daughter and I left my son's fraternity, would say at least two.
"My daughter tried to text message someone right after the explosion and her cell phone wouldn't work. It was the 4th quarter before cell phones started going off around us and the lady sitting next to us had six missed calls and none of us heard her cell phone go off. The girl behind us whose sister alerted her told us her sister tried to get her for over half an hour and couldn't get through.
Your guess is as good as mine about shutting down cell phones"
Actually, after this happened, I tried to call my son at another big college game here in Texas and his cell phone was not working either.neither was his roomates...???? Strange...
Pathetic.
Oh...that is rich.
Using that logic...they should have dropped the word airplane after 9/11.
Yup....just flew to granny's in the old metal skeeter!
Face it folks, this was the dry run.....
I like that:) New media bump.Freep media bump.:)
Thanks! It was a freaky feeling walking back to the fraternity -- we started looking at everyone around us and so did everyone else. Think our emotions were in overdrive after we heard the words suicide bomber.
It was because of the large secondary explosion... Shook some chips loose from the local cell station...
It could have just been a local max-out. One site, probably thirty simultaneous conversations would have done it.
I read that after the Bali bombs this weekend that they shut down the cel phone network ASAP and, finding unexploded bombs, credit this with preventing more carnage there. So maybe that's SOP everywhere nowadays in situations like this. Makes sense.
Oh, come on, give me a break.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
As though OK hasn't already had enough bombings for a score of lifetimes.
I'm glad that you, with your Republican credentials, corroborate my feelings about the Borens.
Thank you so much for your firsthand reports on this incident. They're very much appreciated.
One of the guys behind us was listening to the game on 1520 and nothing came across. On the way home, I had on 1000 -- nothing; 640 -- nothing; and finally Myron on 1400 said it was a suicide bomber.
Is there a way for the authorities to jam all cellphones in a distinct area, so as to prevent the detonation of more bombs by cellphone?
