Why wasn't Bush behind the steering wheel of this bus? (Where are these feds when you need them?)

What annoys me is not them showing the traffic jams but acting as if you can evacuate 4 million people and NOT have traffic jams.

CNN was all over this. Why it was the TX Dept. of Transportation's fault. (And we all know who indirectly hired the people who hired these people)

Drownings not as bad as it seems. Those who spend a bunch of time in the water see people drown quite a bit. You black out before you drown. Then a minute or so later you really drown.

I've pulled people out of the pool who were in between. They would be struggling, go limp, drift to the bottom and then we would jump in, bring them up, pump them out and throw them back in. Tell them they needed a bit more work on their technique.

"Is THE END in sight? Just wondering."

Are you serious? The prophets of doomsday have always been wrong. Every single one. Every single time.

On the other hand, the hoarders have always been right. Now is the time to stock up on whiskey and toilet paper. (S)

"Oxygen does not explode"

True, but pressurized gas can explode -- without fire. When the gas is oxygen, and the tank explodes, it won't take much to get a fire going when the oxygen is released. Could have been an explosion and then a fire.

Please read posts concerning pressure relief values on these types of tanks.

It takes heat to make it release the pressure, and the same would be true for exploding.

I think on most buses, of the two rear wheels, the front is a single while the back one is dual.

Yep. The Greyhound "scenicruiser" style buss hss dualies on the rearmost axle. The mid-axle has single wheels and can be raised off the road surface for less than full loads -- bus will bounce and sway due to over-suspension.

"Of course, that was for a NASCAR race."

LOL! That sounds much more pleasant than what we went through! Poor Bush. He gets blamed for everything!

I guess by your comment, I should just ignore the Bible also. I seem to remember it does say something about the end in there somewhere. Wars, rumors of wars. All kinds of bad stuff happening at the end. Sure lots going on. But, I am no prophet, so I am like everyone else here, just wondering. Because I have no first-hand knowledge and seriously doubt the Good Lord above will ask my opinion before he pulls the plug.

Matthew 24:36-37 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah....

Mark 13:32-33 But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is.

I didn't mean to imply the end is coming. I'm sorry that there was any misunderstanding. What I did mean was that it is always stressful to have to evacuate from your home and that this incident was just one more horror for these poor people.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. There are so many things that are out of the hands of people. I know that people can only do so much in trying times. It is hard for me to see when things are unprepared and obviously in an aftermath like Katrina when events unfold that show response is sorely lacking. (from local, state, or federal levels) It's frightening because I wonder what can happen to us if an event occurs that's NOT a natural disaster. What if we had to evacuate a city VERY quickly because of a nuclear bomb threat? It obviously can't be done. That's scary, and that's where my frustration comes from. Plans have to be better laid. Everywhere.
The hardest part to deal with obviously is when human beings use these trying times to their personal or political advantage. It's sickening. It's hard to get past and hard to see past. But we have to because of all the people out there who need help and who are hurting. The left would rather take this act of God (and these truly are) and turn the blame onto this Adminstration in an attempt to write a disaster into its legacy simply because of blind hatred.
The same way they would sacrifice thousands of Iraqi lives by pulling the troops out early just so they could say "See, Bush was wrong" and be able to write it into the history books. It's not the human life that matters, it's the hatred for one man. You can read with every sentence they write in their blogs.
No matter what the outcome of this hurricane Rita, something about it will be wrong. There will be something for them to blame on the Administration and President Bush specifically.
Meanwhile, I will be mourning losses, worrying about the people left without homes, wondering if all the animals are safe, and hoping people will be able to rebuild their lives.

The Apollo fire was just a real shock to NASA, up to that point the worst thing to happen to America's space program was losing Gus Grissom's Liberty Belle (and I don't mean to diminish the deaths of the guys who died in plane crashes outside of the Space Program, like Charlie Freeman). So I can imagine the trauma effect on the guys at Mission Control. Probably similar to what British colleagues heard on open phones on 9/11 from their Cantor Fitzgerald co-horts at the WTC.

And I'm with you, metmom. I've heard people say that the 9/11 jumpers thought they might survive by jumping. No way. They preferred that death to death by fire. I would have gone with them.

Prayers for these poor people and their loved ones.

LOL. My kids swim and two are now lifeguards. I can appreciate that. I couldn't swim if my life depended on it. I avoid water except the beach part.
