President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I wonder (if they were not at the Superdome)how they heard about the transfer to the Astrodome? (considering there's no electricity, etc.)

LEO's detailing locations of their assets and their plans - as they battle against the scum thugs - I know chances of compromising anything are slim (you're right, not many FReepers in that crowd tonight), but I'm just gonna apply some discretion, rather than pump out anything I hear...

I wasn't talking about poor people in the cities. Jesus said we will always have the poor.

And we definitely are to help the poor.

I was speaking of the gangs, drug addicts, murderers, etc. If you don't think they are a major problem to cities now, then I really don't know what to say.

sNorry is a self-loathing American that hates Bush.

I can contend the money wasted on unfixable third world countries should have been spent on the levees instead.
Or the money from all those bridges that are only halfway built to nowhere.

George is an idiot. He's needs to have his bosses sit him down and warn him again about reading, and believing, the DNC faxes.

I remember seeing a brief clip last night of the buses that had just began evacuating from Kenner. They were using yellow school buses. That area is Jefferson Parish, but goodness I hope it wasn't a situation where evacuees tossed the driver and took off. Kinda doubt that, because they were likely traveling in convoys. If that happened we should know soon, because a check will reveal a missing driver or fewer arriving buses at the intended shelter than told to expect.

But it is unlikely that a bus was sitting abandoned with keys in it.

he also said they were drinking "rust" colored water, which is odd considering the military turcks have been taking bottled water all day in full view of the cameras..

http://old.mises.org:88/NO2 is the only webcam I know of in the city - the cam is run during daylight hours from directNIC which is located in downtown NO, a few blocks south of the Superdome. The hosting company is running on generator and being kept secure by their emergency management.

http://sigmund.biz/kat/index.html has the archives of both the cam and camera shots taken from just before the hurricane to today. (it takes quite a while to load unless you have wide broadband.)

This isn't a RACE thing, it's a basic breakdown in law and order!!

It is too a race thing. It's a race to the bottom!

My mind is beginning to reel--this cannot be true, and yet it compounds as time goes on.

Prayers for all!

"Nope sorry you said that There was a Salvation army center Under the Bridge Shep was on. BTW The Road to the Super Dome that Shep was on went underwater before it got to the Super dome! The Pull back showed that numerous times you just engaged in what you accused Shep of doing. You made it sound like Shep was standing on top of a relief center. Shame on you, you publicity seeker!"

Thank you so much for posting this. I could have sworm when the camera showed the scene over the side of the overpass (looking toward the Super Dome) that I saw they were cut off by water. Just couldn't remember for sure.

"I don't think any of us have trashed anyone for being poor or black. I just think we dont' have patience with theft and murder,"

No, a few days ago I would have agreed totally but There are posts on this thread accusing the folks on that bridge to be lazy and shiftless because they didn't swim further towards the Super dome which was surrounded by water, after having swam there from the projects.

There was many folks there suffering all sorts of maladies and many were frail, elderly, and infirm who were deposited there by folks who were not officials but just citizens rescuing people. Some on here are upset because these folks didn't make there way another half mile across neck deep water, calling them stupid and lazy.

I am ashamed of some of these so-called FReepers(?)

***The acts of the riotous mobs and looters should take nothing from the plight of the refugees who are seeking escape.***

They aren't, but you are witnessing a basic breakdown in law, order and community, brought about by 30 years of liberalism, and a "ME FIRST, and to hell with everyone else" society....

It's literally becoming Mad Max Land, and people are DYING because of it!!!

What in the world does race have to do with that?
You will have these types of people in ANY population.

Yeah I am getting the feeling some on here think that all those left behind in NO and any Fox reporters deserve what they get now.

I wonder sometimes how these people with such views like this survive on their own without dying of stupidity.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, sport, but there are plenty of us out here that are plenty worried about the people in the whole southeast.
