The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

CNN just did an update on Cindi's "tour", also.

Did the MSM faithfully report on each phase of the patriots' progress in the multi-state "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan last week?

Hah, I should even ask, already yet.

AT work at LSU, nothing going on, campus deserted. Everyone talking about the plans but I was expecting a bee hive and it looks more like a ghost town. They are roping off an area of campus. And the campus is clean, crews picking up branches, etc. I don't see a single emergency vehicle. Docs calling in to help can't find out where to go, the radio said the gov office said "it is up in the air". I don't know but it is empty here. Rumor has it kids are coming to the basketball center and there are medically ill people at the Field House. We are eating donuts and swapping stories.

I am sitting here stunned to think they are going to take them to the Astrodome in busses no less.

The Governor is now holding a prayer service -- excuse me but I think the people handling the emergency this morning need to be working. I figured it was going to be a short minute of silence but it is a service.

I think there are people that are stuck in their attics that will die before they are ever found. Or folks that have died in their homes that couldn't make it up into the attic. If 100,000 people stayed in New Orleans, and they say there are 20,000 in the Dome, where are the others? I know some of those are in high rises, but the numbers don't add up.

All we can hope for is that 100,000 people didn't stay behind.

Last night, hubby and I were talking about the need to move the folks from the Superdome. He was saying, "How are they going to house these people? Where are they going to take them?" I suggested the Astrodome. This is just a temporary thing, I hope. This is an entire city made homeless. Where are all these people going to live? New Orleans is unlivable and will be for quite some time. For rich and poor.

If true, I'd say these are druggies looking for a fix. Firearms for the staff wouldn't seem out of line.

Uh, finding a barge that hasn't sunk already and something to move it with, I'd guess.

They tried dumping the 3k lb sandbags in before, but the water just washes them away.

Ma'am, our thread leader makes a valid point re fuel availability.

You know I'm no stranger to semi-spontaneous trips and the survival thereof,
and am loathe to lend discouragement to someone with the gumption to try to help on their own,
but your friend and his/her supplies might be more helpful with some basic emergency infrastructure in place to direct their use.

LSU Health Sciences Center needs medical personnel

11:50 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2005

LSU Health Sciences Center is asking for doctors, residents and medical students who would like to help provide medical support.

Those interested should call (225) 763-5762 or email jtakenak@dhh.la.gov.

Emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgeons are most needed right now but all specialities could be needed at some point.

Do you have a source for the Astro Dome story? I'm not challenging you on it, but if it happens I may have to work there.

Unbelieveable. The Governor and her staff don't even know what to do with doctors? This is just beyond bizarre.

Looks like they are going to breech the levies set to protect the city in order to drain the water the fastest.

We are literally seeing a city die right before our eyes. This is the Chicago Fire, the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, but this time it's on TV. But the good news is, those cities eventually were reborn.
