The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
I just heard a report from Fox in NO that some of this is survival looting. Wal Mart opened it's doors and said come on in..
The police confiscated a tractor and a port o potty as they had no usable toilet for 3 days..The reporter could not explain why the water is rising because of lack of communication..We know more than he does.
There are always some who take advantage of course.
and the cop stands alone...Sorry but it reminded me of that song I sang as a kid...Hi HO the Dairyo...The cop stands alone...Getting nervous I guess...I do that sometimes.
Shermy prediction...the ballyhooed "3000lbs sand bags" were not pre-filled, and stored guess where? in New Orleans "bowl".
Also, we will find that government and contractors haggled over lucrative projects over the years and failed to do the cheap stuff...like storing the bags on higher ground, contacts with military helicopters, etc.
Let's hope, swiftly.
I'm aware of two rigs that broke loose, not counting that one in dry dock in Mobile. Not a big problem. Just find them and tow them back to where they were needed.
I can't really speculate on the natural gas leaks in New Orleans. It's certainly possible to cut off all gas at the gateway to the city, but I'm not sure they want to do that. The poor folks have no power. Cut off their gas and the places that were continuing to use it safely will suffer enormously.
Fox News said the poor seal was burning up in the 90+ heat. Even with people pouring muddy water on it, the seal looked in real distress. Shooting it was merciful (obviously no vet around to euthanize it).
All changes are for the best. That is how I look at it.
Pump is being shut-off now as water is rising on the east bank. Water will be 3 feet above sea level which means 9 feet above sea level since Jefferson Parrish is six feet below sea level. Just heard on WWL.
Said this area had been unaffected by rising water until now.
They are saying the whole city is being evacuated.
I wonder exactly where they think they're going with their loot. If the city is evacuated, I doubt that the Guard is going to truck them away with their 10 stolen TV's. Well, nobody ever said looters were smart.
Remember, heavy-lift choppers are still making their way to the area. Right now, they're scarce. The lighter Jetranger types cannot lift much (700lbs, at best over the two person crew, if I recall correctly), and the Coast Guard HH-60s and HH-65s are not rigged to carry loads.
Most of those hulls have run aground and cannot be refloated to be moved without a lot more time than they have.
Has Fox asked Jug Twitty what his opinion is on this storm?
Slidell got hit fairly hard. Check under my posts from about 2 hr ago.
***CNN had a reporter on that is reporting three looters have been shot near the Super Dome.***
I get the feeling that things are breaking down thier, fast....
Now I have a visual...Not a pretty picture.
As far as the looting goes; Just where are they going to take the stolen goods??
Police were allowed to commadeer stuff under the disaster declaration...
Well it is between sea level and one foot below sea level. That is all I "know."
I am getting that same bad feeling. Think we are about to see the entire city under water. When I saw the breech was from a concrete portion, I thought uh oh this is going to get worse.
According to WWL levees are being eroded by all the water -- you can tell the reporters know this is really bad.
