King Tut Exhibit Outrages Activists. Critics Want Busts Depicting Tut As White Removed.
LOS ANGELES -- African-American activists criticized the Board of Supervisors Tuesday for allowing a King Tut exhibition at the county Museum of Art, saying that renderings of the boy king as white are inaccurate.
The "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs" exhibit opens a four-city, nationwide tour at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on June 16. Among the installations are three busts of Tut II reconstructed from the boy king's mummified corpse.
All of the busts, fashioned by three groups of researchers, show Tut as a caucasoid North African. That representation led to Tuesday's protest by about a dozen speakers, who asked that the busts be removed from the exhibit.
"There is no evidence that King Tut was white," Compton City Attorney Legrand Clegg told the board. "Egypt is on the continent of Africa."

The current issue of National Geographic covers the recent technical sturdy of the mummy using MRI imaging and followi on sculpting of the mummy's features by people skilled in the art.
If you want to get a scientific basis for Tuts racial profile, I suggest the National Geographic instead of the hue and cry from truly stupid people.
Leni
Possibly you have explained WHY it evolved, but without a timeline, we still don't know much about Tut.
What's the problem?
I know. I was being sarcastic to emphasize the stupidity of the "I'm offended at everything" bunch.
Skin color is pretty superficial anyway. It's not what defines races.
But we can be extremely confident that Tut wasn't a very dark skinned sub-Saharan African.
I will concede that we all have the same ancestors. So what? What is accomplished by pounding on the table about it?
That's funny. My sister was born in Frankfurt while my father was stationed in Germany. Growing up, I used to make her mad by calling her a Nazi.
yeah my brother used to do that to me quite a bit....
The Afro-Centric movement wants to have a golden age like the Greeks, Romans, Persions, Hebrews, Asyrrians, Babylonians, Britisj, French and Americans. So they steal the Egyptian's.
The black muslims claim that the pyramids were designed and built by black Africans with wings.
Listen to me. I only give good advice.
Good point.
It gets worse. Africans also discovered America:

"There is a lot of evidence to prove that black mariners have been to the Americas before Christopher Columbus. The Nubian monarchy (in modern-day Sudan) is probably the oldest in recorded history, even before Europe dreamt of a monarchy. It was Aesop, a black man who introduced his fables, using animals as characters into Greece. He inspired LaFontaine, the French writer; to begin his own fables and has had a profound impact on Western thought and morals. Aesop also influenced other famous personalities like Caxton, Shakespeare, Aristophanes, Socrates, Plato, Solon, Aristotle, Julius Caesar, Cicero and others.
Blacks built the pyramids of Egypt and the Sphinx. A close examination of the mummies has revealed that most of the Pharaohs came from Nubia and were black. Seti I, Thutmose III, Tutankamen, Imhotep (the famed Prime Minister to the Pharaoh Zoser) and Rameses II were all black. So were Khufu, (called Cheops by the Greeks) Amenhotep III (Amenophis) Ahmose I (Amos), Pharaoh Mentuhotep I (founder of the Eleventh dynasty), Mycerinus and Pharaoh Sesotris I of the twelfth Dynasty."
You are a mean person. I like that about you.
I am Irish 50%, English 25%, and Cherokee/Creek 25%. I was born in a Baptist Hospital. What the heck do I call myself? Mom calls me son.
That would just be silly. Textbooks can't fly.
Does the DNC issue certificates of racial purity now?
And neither can ancient Africans........
What's funny about that is that the ancient sites and treasures of the era were looted by later populations. Some of those papyrus writings and mummies will never be studied, since they were burned for kindling. Even huge monuments were disassembled, stone by stone, to build new structures.
The only reason Pharaonic Egypt is of interest today is because French archaeologists did initial studies there ca 1800.
