Forgot that the aircraft was called a Challenger. Bad coincidence.

I was referring to the idea that ice should never be taken lightly or dismissed in cold weather. I will drop it here, however, since the shuttle disaster has been hashed thoroughly for the last 19 years and doesn't need to be revived here.

True.
But I know you aren't a conspiracy type, that you just run down the thought or thoughts to see where it goes.
The newbie, I can't be sure about him.

But then again, we were all clueless mewling puking newbies once.

Been to the Grove.

We own a place a few miles north of Seaside though. So most of my travel is to Point Pleasant.

Great.
I'm envisioning "The Blue Oyster" from the Police Academy films.

When I was learning how to drive, I was coerced into driving from Tinton Falls to the mall in Ocean Grove.

"Source? Like the fact I was trained by a major carrier and Boeing in de-icing procedures? Nope, no source."

Ha, you prove my point. If you can be trained to deice an airplane, then anyone can. It isn't rocket science. You have a pretty big ego for an airport ground crew flunky BTW.

Yes.
Would be helpful.
Sometimes I'm wrong, but it is hard to tell when someone gets quiet on a sudden like that.

Logical and legitimate to question laser issue since one of the laser incidents did occur at Teterboro.

It should be pointed out here that several of the laser incidents were related to Teterboro airport, but only in terms of where the planes were heading. At least two of the incidents occurred miles away from the airport along landing approaches, and they've already arrested and charged someone in those incidents (he was a white American male who was apparently a bit of a loony-tune).

From that website......(I don't know if those would be strong enough to lock onto an approaching plane)

Queer eye on the hot guy
In recent years, pocket lasers have become increasingly popular at gay dance clubs. Paco Garcia explains that club-goers often use the green laser pointers to add to the excitement on the dance floor. “When you see a buff guy, guys point pocket lasers on him. That way he stands out and he knows that we think he’s hot,” explains Garcia.

Hundreds of inexpensive lasers were sold within Cleveland's gay community alone this Christmas, some for as little as $15. The lasers, while strong, are completely legal.

Yes it is!

Heres the FAA's requirements for a companies de-ice program
http://www.faa.gov/avr/afs/faa/8300/8300_vol2/2_004_00.pdf

Imagine if the company rep came back to the FAA and said "uh-yup - we gots us someone ta squirts the juice on the bird!" LOL

Alaska had an MD80 mishap that could have been fatal in the 90s out of SEA when a mechanic with that same "it's not rocket science" attitude failed to de-ice properly. A sheet of ice fod'd an engine at takeoff. They were able to return (I think they put down at Boeing field) The mech was fired but the idiot Union got him his job back because he claimed he wasn't properly trained...but knowing that mechanic, it wouldnt have mattered if he had 100 hours of deice training...

My little red laser pointer that I use to annoy the cats is strong enough to hurt your eyes should you be foolish enough to get it in your eyes.

A green laser pointer would hurt a heck of alot worse.
It is more in tune with the part of the light spectrum in which humans see the best in.

I have a problem with anyone who doesn't respect the job they have been hired to perform. If they don't respect their job, they won't do a respectable job.

Cal, as I understand the laser, the thin stream of light is
so intense that it actually burns the eye.

Many could explain and understand it better than I.

I do know that even the very cheap/almost toy ones are
dangerous for kids to play with. Or so I read over and
over.

I assume it is about the same as not looking at eclipses or staring at the sun.

If you are looking for the number of feet in the runway, I can't
help you, but I do feel that it is too short, or he would
not have gone off it and hit the building........

Not a ground crew. Never was.
And yes, anyone can recieve training. It's what they do with the training that matters. I thought you implied it wasn't difficult to do something like de-ice. From the concourse to an armchair aviation observer, it's not difficult. It's the folks who say "anyone can do that" who have warped egos. The fact you don't know what's involved and made that statement proves my point. Have a nice day.

The car looked like a dark colored Dodge.
The roof and most of the passenger side pillars were removed.
The rescue workers didn't have to cut anyone out.
Another car, dunno if it was parked or not, had the roof dished in.
