Alaska had an MD80 mishap that could have been fatal in the 90s out of SEA when a mechanic with that same "it's not rocket science" attitude failed to de-ice properly. A sheet of ice fod'd an engine at takeoff. They were able to return (I think they put down at Boeing field) The mech was fired but the idiot Union got him his job back because he claimed he wasn't properly trained...but knowing that mechanic, it wouldnt have mattered if he had 100 hours of deice training...
I have a problem with anyone who doesn't respect the job they have been hired to perform. If they don't respect their job, they won't do a respectable job.
