This makes me irate. What a spoiled brat. Most of our service men are highly educated (ever heard of West Point?) I had several close friends in college who CHOSE to join the military. Slightly disagree. Although only officers are required to have bachelor's degrees, most senior enlisted do as well. It's very common for junior enlisted to re-enlist for education bonuses.

No. As long as you can pass the ASVAB (military aptitude test), you're in. While in, the military will educate you (e.g., GED, associates, bachelors, masters, Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., D.D.S...).

People join the volunteer military for a lot of different reasons, when they leave the military, they are wiser, richer (in more ways than just money) and they are owed a debt by the rest of the country. No one should decry the people in the military, they are heros, and they are ours.

It’s not just the officers that are educated. Basically your not getting in without a high school diploma. By the time an enlisted person has been in 10 years most in the Air Force have at least an associates and I suspect the other services aren‘t far behind. I don’t have the stats handy but there is also a large number with bachelors, masters and even doctorates. Just more confirmation of the lefts bias.

The US military as a group is better educated and has a higher family income than the US population in general. It's a myth that a draft could improve the quality of the US military, a draft would degrade it.

The AH64D Apache helicopter unit cost works out to about $56.25 million, a little more responsibility than most employers would entrust to the typical HS dropout slacker with his nose ring.

I also encourage you to pursue education. I had a 1290 (missed 2 on the math, did terrible on the verbal) and I just graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy (the little-known 5th service academy) with honors in engineering. I got a free education and I love it! Thanks Uncle Sam, sorry this girl doesn't appreciate what you do for us.

What a totally asinine thing to say. I served in the military and lots of soldiers had education beyond high school. There is also a lot of training you get being in the military. You also get the experience of learning to work with others, serving the communities, mentoring children, and showing courage, determination, and standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

Also, many, many people join the military to take advantage of the generous educational benefits they offer. It's not unusual for someone to enlist in, say, the Army for four years, go to college on the GI Bill, join ROTC, then begin their military career as newly minted (and newly-degreed) junior officers.

You can't get a commission without a degree anymore, and the military is one of the very best ways for those coming from depressed backgrounds to really get a good education, both in and out of the classroom.

Sounds like this chick doesn't know the first thing about the military, which is not surprising given that she's a lib.
