The following statement from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth concerns an article appearing in morning edition of the Boston Globe:
"Viet Vet Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in todays edition of the Boston Globe by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that he ad be played.
Additional documentation will follow.
The article by Mr. Kranish is particularly surprising given page 102 of Mr. Kranishs own book quoting John Kerry as acknowledging that he killed a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong soldier whom he was afraid would turn around.
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 supporters who are revealing first hand, eyewitness accounts of numerous incidents concerning John Kerrys military service record. The organization will continue to discuss much of what John Kerry has reported as fact concerning his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam.

"My name is Steve Gardner. I served in 1966 and 1967 on my first tour of duty in Vietnam on Swift boats, and I did my second tour in '68 and '69, involved with John Kerry in the last 2 1/2 months of my tour. The John Kerry that I know is not the John Kerry that everybody else is portraying. I served alongside him and behind him, five feet away from him in a gun tub, and watched as he made indecisive moves with our boat, put our boats in jeopardy, put our crews in jeopardy... if a man like that can't handle that 6-man crew boat, how can you expect him to be our Commander-in-Chief?"
-- Steven Gardner
The above quote was from a press conference given at the National Press Club in Washington on May 4, 2004. You may view Stevens comments at the following web site. Just scroll down to Stevens picture and click on it.
http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/index.php?topic=SwiftVetQuotes
Searching through that web site, you will find 250 men who served on Swift boats, including the entire chain of command above Lt. Kerry, agree with Steven Gardner that Kerry is not fit to be Commander-in-Chief. That compares to the 13 crew members who support his candidacy.

bump... the longer this controversy lingers, the better... a net minus for Kerry.
Next, the vets should move on to the anti-war protests that Kerry led.

What, the Rat press is just going to fabricate outright lies now?
One of the pundits on MSNBC said the SwiftVets ad wasn't really that good because "they said the served with Kerry, but they weren't really on the boat with him."
No, you cannot fit 250 Naval officers on a single SWIFT boat.

Based on the press coverage I've seen, the biggest challenge the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth face is getting the facts of their story in front of the public. The media gives 95% of the coverage to the Democrat spin and ignores the actual challenges the SBVFT are presenting.
To: tkathy
They are veterans. They served their country. Then they suffered in silence for 30 years.
I'm sure they know what's coming, and I'm sure they will hang in there.

Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
What kind of president could John Kerry be? Over the last four years we've seen Republican policies in action; now Americans need to know what a Democratic administration would do differently. In this comprehensive book, Kerry and Edwards reveal their plans and promises for America. They chart their strategy to roll back the Bush tax cuts and use the savings to provide funding for their health care plan, education reform, and other initiatives. Kerry/Edwards aim to improve America by: restoring jobs and rebuilding our economy; providing access to affordable health care; creating a new era for America's schools; winning the peace in Iraq; defending the American homeland; instituting a principled foreign policy; helping to create a cleaner and greener America; making college affordable for all Americans; and much more. Can the Kerry/Edwards "Real Deal" succeed? In his introduction, the Boston Globe's Michael Kranish provides keen insight into what a Kerry/Edwards administration could mean for America's future.
About the Author
Michael Kranish has worked for the Boston Globe for more than 20 years, including the last 16 in the newspaper's Washington Bureau. He is co-author of John F. Kerry: The Complete Biography (PublicAffairs, 2004).
Book Description
John Kerry and his running mate, Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, have a plan: an ambitious, detailed blueprint to alter the current course of America and re-direct its future. They call it the "Real Deal."But what does it really promise? How do Kerry and Edwards plan to roll back our damaged foreign relations? How will they improve our economy, restore jobs, and manage to make America safer, stronger, and more secure? Here are their proposals:
* Restoring Jobs and Rebuilding the Economy * Winning the Peace in Iraq * Providing Access to Affordable Healthcare * Defending the American Homeland * Creating a New Era for America's Schools * Helping to Create a Cleaner and Greener America * Instituting a Principled Foreign Policy * Making College Affordable for All Americans
Kerry/Edwards: Their Plans and Promises delineates issue-by-issue the promises and the plans of the Kerry/Edwards ticket. In his introduction, the Boston Globe's Michael Kranish offers penetrating insight into the policies of a Kerry Administration, and what they could mean for America.
Kerry/Edwards: Their Plans and Promises cuts through the rhetoric to the details of the "Real Deal." Now Democrats and Republicans alike can judge for themselves exactly what the Kerry/Edwards ticket is offering America in what is shaping up to be one of the fiercest, most passionate political contests in generations.
