KERRY / BUSH PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES CANCELLED PENDING FORMAL APOLOGIES FROM KERRY CAMPAIGN (Proposal)
HughHewitt.com + Live Radio ^ | 3/10/03 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 03/10/2004 3:14:26 PM PST by Steven W.

The difference between wrong and rotten: John Kerry crossed a line today. Working a line of supporters, one of whom encouraged him to "keep smiling," Kerry, obviously thinking the microphones were off, said "Don't worry man. We're going to keep pounding. We're just beginning to fight here. These guys, er, these guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group of people I've ever seen." The tape aired on CNN, and I will be replaying it dozens of times on air for the country to hear this afternoon and evening.

Kerry obviously meant the president, the vice president, Karl Rove and the president's re-election campaign. Given the sweeping nature of the insult, throw in the entire White House staff, Rumsfeld and the Joint Chiefs, George Tenet, and Paul Bremer. Throw in everyone working to bring freedom to Afghanistan and Iraq, and demilitarization to Libya (successfully) and North Korea, Syria and Iran. It is a massive slander, and the tone of his voice brooks no doubt about his sincerity. Kerry really believes what he whispers in a moment he believes to be unrecorded. Kerry's sheep-dipped in paranoia.

Now the media needs to call him on it. What's the evidence for "crooked," for "lying?" What's he mean, and in detail. You don't get to walk away from such outrageous charges with a laugh and a wave. Kerry was a defender of Clinton, recall, a president demonstrated to be a liar and crooked. (Not just the impeachment, wither, but Marc Rich etc.) But Bush-Cheney are worse than Clinton in Kerry's world. The president let slip once in 2000 what he thought of New York Times' reporter Adam Clymer, and the world collapsed on him. Kerry's charge is so much more serious that it defies comparison.

You can disagree with Bush on any number of issues, including the decision to go to war in Iraq. But no one candidate of the opposition party has to my knowledge ever uttered such a hate-infused polemic against the sitting president. This outburst is one with the MoveOn.org crowd's Bush-as-Hitler ads. It is bizarre. It is disturbing. It is disqualifying. Imagine a rage filled Kerry in the White House. And you thought Nixon had his demons.

At a minimum I hope the president responds by ruling out any debates with this jerk --any debates, period-- until a full apology is issued by Kerry to a full bank of cameras, a detailed and complete apology that includes everyone about whom the public might now think a liar or corrupt because of this recklessness. Seriously, the Democrats need to rethink their choice. Kerry's way off the cliff, and we have just begun to glimpse the inner Kerry: A mean-spirited, arrogant, angst-riden elitist with nothing but contempt for President Bush and the Americans who support him. And he has now given every nut in America more fuel for their inner demons.

No doubt Terry McAuliffe will be blaming the president for the low tone of the campaign that has now seen Kerry brand the president as a corrupt liar, McAuliffe brand the president as AWOL, Gore scream out his charge that the president "betrayed" the country, Wes Clark challenge the president's patriotism, and Howard Dean speculate that Bush had warning of 9/11. Don't hold your breath for CNN to report on who drove the campaign into the ditch, but there's no mistaking the party diving for the bottom.

You may be surprised what goes on at the polls especially in low income and less educated communities.
Most of the tales you hear about voting irregularities are small considering what really goes on. It is a fact some areas show voting 100% and even more of registered voters.

We're fighting back this a.m. asking for an apology. I said a long time ago that Kerry is not fit to serve. His big mouth is at it again. If Kerry doesn't know at his age as a public figure that PEOPLE HAVE TAPE RECORDERS AND VIDEO? lol

Debates are good because he will surely lose all of those.

Said he thinks that if Kerry doesn't take Hillary on the ticket that the Clintons will be spending lots of energy stabbing him in the back, etc.

True but we need to remember if Kerry starts to look like an imminent implosion... who again comes in to save the party?

I can think of six other Presidents who were denounced or hated with unusual and/or intemperate passion by the opposition: John Addams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.

The last five have one thing in common -- they were all reelected. This tells me that hatred doesn't work, and possibly even strenthens a sitting President (at least relative to a challenger).

As a related point, the electorate generally does not vote against an incumbent as a prime or sole motivation (even if they tell pollsters they will). They must be persuaded to vote for the opponent. Freeper Common Tator has argued that the most recent (only?) exception to this rule is Herbert Hoover, while also pointing out that there is no depression on, and that Bush is no Herbert Hoover.

Now I'm not saying intemperate hatred is a good thing for Democrats to embrace, even from the perspective of pro-Bush partisans. It's not. Not for anyone, and not for the public interest generally. It will be damaging for everyone, but the silver lining is that it will be most damaging for the 'Rats, for their party, and for their candidates.

Kerry told the press he'd "tell them later" what he meant by calling a majority of the United States, the GOP, conservatives and the POTUS crooks and liars. I can hardly wait. This is the soundbite of the day, EVEN ON CNN HEADLINE NEWS. They may be doing it to hurt Bush but it's going to hurt Kerry imo. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS AND STUPID GUYS.

Bush had a great comeback but I can't recall what the Fox crawler was specifically. It made Kerry seem like the DISGRACE that he is.

Yep, I heard that the Bush folks have asked for an apology.

I also heard that one is not forthcoming. In fact, the Kerry folks have begun SPINNING and turning this on its' head already.

Kerry Decries GOP as 'Crooked' and 'Lying'

Earlier, Kerry campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said the Democratic candidate had no regrets about his characterizations of the opposition. "Not at all," she said. "There's been a pretty high level of Republican attack machine working for the last four years for the sole purpose of smearing the Democrats. We're trying to make this campaign about issues; Republicans are making it about attacks."

It is a fact some areas show voting 100% and even more of registered voters.

We had that happen in a mayoral election in 2001 that was particularly close. The national DNC worked the effort for the runoff election (even King Rat hisself, Terry McAwful). The skunk won his final re-election scampaign and bankrupted the city (with the help of the Houston Comical).

Kerry told the press he'd "tell them later" what he meant

A staffer will probably blame it on a "computer virus"...

Kerry’s Web site keeps FCC on the run (Profanity blamed on a "virus").

It sounds nice but I think the Bush team would be playing into Kerry's hands if they used it as an excuse to cancel the debates.

Has anyone ever watched Kerry speak off the cuff. Bush is not the world's best debater but he'll still slaughter Kerry. Kerry can't even say the day's sound bite without multiple takes.

Imagine him actually having to rebutt Bush without a speechwriter.

Latest accusation. Blaming Rush and Hannity. I think his statement painted with a broad brush, therein condemning our excellent grass roots activism based on facts.

He is attempting to state that facts coming from conservatives about his record and positions are lies because we are crooks.

The American Iraqi spy just happens to be a democrat. Worked for Carole Mosely Braun and also a congressman from Oregon. She's been charged with trying to kill Bush 41. See my tag line for more info.

I don't know that she's been linked to the attempt to get X41.

She was dealing with the Iraqi government branch that launched that plan. I think that plan predates her involvement with Iraq by nearly a decade.

Like I mentioned on this thread yesterday, John F'n Kerry and his ilk/campaign are spinning, spinning, spinning his remark, not to mention the ("oh, how dare you say the press has liberal biases") Liberal Media. Another post mentioned that the Republicans will most likely lose this opportunity - lack of backbone, etc. I often wonder what our candidate's campaign actually talk about as these things continue to happen. Do they discuss it and a good, strong response, or is it just us, here, on Free Republic? I don't think it would hurt for Mr. Bush's campaign to come out swinging and call this remark for what it really is - "gutter politics" - that the Repubs are accused of taking part in on a regular basis by Kerry's people, and Kerry himself. I'm sorry. I've missed something. Where, exactly, are the "gutter politics" from our side of the aisle regarding this campaign? When have they happened? Looks to me like it's coming from the Democratic "machine", speaking of machines. Hugh Hewitt's website on March 10th cites a quote that I think is entirely germain to what has happened "......from G. K. Chesterton: "As a matter of fact, it is generally the man who is not ready to argue, who is ready to sneer."
If it looks like a duck, walks and talks like one, then the obvious conclusion is.....?

If you listen to a replay of Kerry's remarks about the liars and crooks, at the mumbling part, it sounds like Kerry's saying "freaking mothers." I just heard it on the radio. Kerry needs an intervention. STAT. He's not presidential material but someone refer him to a "nice spa/retreat".

KERRY: These guys, er, these guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group of people I've ever seen."

Listen again... Kerry said "freaking mothers", not "I've ever seen."

I believe the "I've ever seen" was fabricated by the media.

KERRY'S COMMENTS WERE ALTERED FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION.

The MEDIA ENGAGED IN A COVER-UP to protect their boy John Effin Kerry who called all Bush supporters, the President, the RNC, et al and conservatives in general including Hannity and Rush, "freakin'muthers" or "muthers". That is not what is being reported in print today.

Kerry won't apologize because he wants this to go away. We should contact conservative media sources about the alteration. It just takes another listen. We have corroborating listeners - I am not halucinating.
