Conservative lawmakers and activists disappointed with President Bush's first 18 months in office are calling into question his tactics and strategy in advancing the conservative agenda.

"The president for the most part has been our guy," said House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Texas Republican and a prominent conservative on Capitol Hill. "A few times we disagree."

It was the subject of an extensively-Freeper-discussed poll from early 2001.

I'd like to see that poll. If the M.O.E. is greater than 3.5 percent or it is done by a brazenly partisan polling group, it is not credible. Let's see what sourcing this has. Can you point me to it, or a thread on FR that discusses it?

>>I will admit if I were President I would ignore the constitution and the other two branches and destroy all socialism using any means neccasary including training artillery on congress, arresting democratic congressman without charge etc. The lefts fight dirty and I would fight dirtier.<

And hopefully you would be removed by lethal force, if necessary.

I will not be contributing or volunteering for Bush in 2004, and unless he repeals the reauthorization for the Assault Weapons ban, will not be voting for him.

Thanks for being a one issue Pro Gore Pro Kerry Pro Hillary supporter. Witholding a vote for Bush means one less vote the Democratic candidate will need.

Ask the staunch Bush supporters why their conservative messiah signed the Education Bill, Campagin Finance Reform, and the Farm Bill and they'll say that it's all part of his brilliant strategy to take these issues away from the Democrats. Of course, I don't buy this theory. I find it very peculiar that if Clinton had signed the aforementioned bills "conservatives" would have been up in arms, but because a compassionate conservative signed them it must be part of some master plan. It's actually quite pathetic.

My vote is not guarenteed. My vote is earned.

Tell your guy to start acting like a compassionate CONSERVATIVE and he might earn my vote.

>>In order to get control of these houses, Bush must energize his base.

He has depressed it greatly.<<

I rejoiced that Bill Clinton was the worst thing to happen to the Democrats in 1994.

Now I piss and moan that Bush has probably done the same thing to Republicans.

Like it or not the left will not be stopped by any legal method. They are too entrenched now. The Republican party has been infiltrated by socialist and people on the dole( and women) will never vote for a real conservative( unless he lies a lot and pretends to be more liberal).

Personally, I believe conservatism is about forwarding conservative policies.

Many seem to think conservativism is about electing whomever the Republicans nominate.

Is this a start? Karl Rove at an American Enterprise Institute Seminar, reported in the Chicago Tribune, said four million evangelicals stayed home in November 2000. They expected 19 million and got 15 million. And it was a rather lengthy thread, too, I might add.

If you decide to stay home, they will go elsewhere for the votes, and you might not like where they go. My advice, get in there, swing the elections his way, and build up some serious markers. Because if they find a way to win without you, you're going to be burnt toast politically.

IOW, a candidate has to agree 1000%, massage feet, and fetch the paper, to get laz's vote.

Laz could care less about the reality of the system.

"Bush is betraying the people who got him elected."

Bullsh*t!
Bush is simply signing legislation that Congress is sending him.
In doing so, he's serving notice that the "free ride" is over for congresscritters who want to vote for something they "oppose" in the secure knowledge that the President will veto it, and the President will take the heat for the veto, not them.

People that frost me are those like Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas who VOTE FOR CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM, then come back home and try to talk like conservatives!

Aside from withholding support, what other leverage does a conservative voter have with the RNC?

FWIW, David Horowitz thought it was credible enough to use in a speech.

That was AFTER the GOP got their butts kicked for impeaching a popular President in 1998.

The Impeachment was after the 1998 election. The procedings were going on during that fall. The Senate "trial" began in January 1999. When they all refused to even read the transcripts.

A candidate doesn't need to agree at a mathematically-impossible level, or engage in massaging, or run errands outdoors to get my vote.

A candidate has to be credibly conservative to get my vote.

This is an insufficient indicator or credibility for me. I need to see the poll and to understand its methodology and, most importantly, its M.O.E.

Exactly.

We must win elections at all costs.

I say we appeal to the right-handed people of the US. Put the left-handers on notice that they can expect a 80% income tax to fund entitlements to all the right-handed people.

We must motivate the right-handers to vote for our candidate. They are a majority, after all.

Because they got their butts kicked the prior election. The left-wingers went all-out to protect their guy, and a fair number of conservatives stayed home. Do you think anyone will stick their neck out if they are not getting backup?

Yup. They found that it wasn't going to get them any markers from "the base," so they decided to not bother.
