A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, dansangel, dutchess, Aquamarine ~

Welcome to a Christmas Contest

There will be SEVEN prizes!!
P.S. Six are spoken for.
1
2
3
A 2004 Republican National Committee Wall Calendar, Each Page Containing a Beautiful Photograph of Our President!
4
5
6
A 2004 Quilt Engangement Calendar!!

It's about time we give Christmas tips to the hostesses around here.   Each of the five regular hostesses -- Billie, Mama_bear, Dansangel, Dutchess, and Aquamarine -- will receive one of the gifts pictured above (unless they prefer of course not to trust an erratic judge like me with their snail mail address, hee hee!).

But hmm, they've all been so good this year.  Who should get which gift??  Play Santa the best and divvy up the gifts and you'll win a special prize! And yes hostesses *are* qualified to enter the contest win the surprise gift too. Of course, a holiday contest thread wouldn't be complete without silly rules, so here are mine:

THE RULES

You know how wonderful our hostesses are
And you know how hard they work.
So pony up your Christmas tip
And don't be a stingy jerk.

Above you see six pictured toys
And your only job is a piece of cake:
Write a poem of that explains
Which gift each hostess should take.

Explain in your poem -- which need not rhyme
Why which hostess should get which toy.
If your poem is the best you'll win for yourself
A surprise which will bring much joy.

To do well in this contest it will help to have read
Some of the threads of this year.
So you'll know, e.g., which hostess loves quilts
And whose hot for George W. in flight gear.

But if you don't know, that's no excuse
Not to offer a poem of praise.
It's Christmas time and well we all know
How much our hostesses deserve a raise.

As you can see from this poem my standards are low
Regarding both meter and rhyme,
But one key to winning is to be sure to enter
By 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

They've worked so hard all year long
And given you color, and graphics, and fun, and great joy.
Please help play Santa for our lovely sistahs
And you'll win a precious toy!

Now some of you may see six gifts
And think that I'm the sixth
But guess again and think real hard
About who else should be on your list!

There's another who appears more often
And delights you with his prose
He should get a gift too and which one
You'll also decide in your lovely poem.

Good luck and have fun and my final advice
Is go for it and be sincere
It's the thought that counts, not how "good" your poem
Just share with us your good cheer!

That's the most shameful display of self promotion I've ever seen!

It pales in comparison to your Grinch-like sentiments and obvious favoritism.

See? We're two peas in a pod. Blecccch!

If you really, really want a gift then try for the 2004 Quilt Engangement Calendar but leave the *good stuff* for someone more deserving. :-)

2004 Quilt Engangement Calendar

I couldn't find that word in the dictionary, therefore I don't want it.

Nothin' for Billie, she's been bad and her mistreatment of me is well-known

I pledge my prize
(of Nothin') Sayeth the Grinch
To he who can't be nice
Not even in a pinch.

Nothin' for Mama_Bear, that would bring me great cheer
Nothin' for dansy, this, next or the following year
Nothin' for dutchess, now don't feel too blue
Nothin' for Aqua, if you don't like it, boo-hoo to you
Nothin' for Billie, she's been bad and her mistreatment of me is well-known
Give them all to the only one deserving, our ace reporter, Miss Maggie Malone!

Well skinny, I have read all the abuse of our ladies I can handle

For you this year, ? COAL

I hope you learn from this, be and play nice.

Santa

Looks like I get nothin' from you this year
Much to your chagrin that's music to my ear
'Fraid I'd be stuck with something you would bake
Be it cookies, a pie or even worse, a fruitcake

"Oh, and Santa should give JohnHuang2 a nice present too."

Definitely, per the last two stanza of my poem of rules, our King of Ping will not be forgotten. He's been a very good boy this year.

A most thoughtful gift indeed. With all the coal I've received I'll most certainly stay warm this winter. :-)

Ode to the Thinnest of Men

When I wrote the rules I made sure to define
The phrase "stingy jerk" with you in mind.
Giving nothing to the hostesses would for you be
An improvement over what we usually see.

All season long you've given Billie nothing but grief
And now you appear like a cheat and a thief
And seriously try to deprive all of gifts!
Can their be any doubt where you are on Santa's lists?

Christmas is but a few days away.
I emplore you know now to change your ways.
Don't gamble with Santa, don't roll the dice.
It's never too late to switch from naughty to nice.

Just five more days, that's all the time
Left for you to repent and be kind.
Do what you have to, eat ice cream, eat cake
But find a way to be good, for goodness' sakes.
