The notoriously pro-LGBT prelate suggested that Catholics may need to ‘leave behind’ the Latin Mass in light of Traditionis custodes.
CHICAGO (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Blase Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago strongly hinted at an upcoming crackdown on the Latin Mass in his diocese, suggesting in a recent article that Catholics may have to “leave behind” the traditional liturgy in light of Pope Francis’ motu proprio Traditionis custodes.
Cupich discussed his plans to implement the motu proprio in an article last week for Pray Tell, the pro-LGBT blog of Collegeville Liturgical Press, which he said came in response to questions about the document from Chicago priests.
The liberal prelate and top ally of the Pope signaled that Catholics devoted to the old Mass would require pastoral “accompaniment” to embrace what he described as “the essential principles of renewal” of Vatican II.
Pope Francis’s intention with Traditionis custodes (TC), Cupich wrote, is “to re-establish throughout the Church of the Roman Rite a single and identical prayer that expresses its unity, according to the liturgical books promulgated by the saintly Popes Paul VI and John Paul II, in conformity with the decrees of the Second Vatican Council.”

Molesting kids is still okay though.
Interesting that the traditional church will have to go underground to escape persecution from their own hierarchy....
Screw Cupich and pope socialista fagato!
A “crackdown” on historic liturgy? The Church will carry on just fine despite the attempt. Let the devils rage.
The Institute of Christ the King has poured millions in their main church on the South Side near U of C.
I’m not Catholic. I don’t understand the implications of this. Why does the language matter?
Relevant Radio discussed this issue this afternoon; the host said, I think, that Latin Mass is a good thing every once in a while, but people need to know what is happening in the mass so having it in the local language is good for the congregation. Sounded like a good Lutheran argument 🤔

Latin is a very precise language that the devil hates. It is the language of the Catholic Church despite all the infiltrated demons trying to get rid of it.
Loosy goosy language in which interpreted meanings are all of the place is the devil’s playground of purposeful ambiguity.
If you want to stick it to the demons, learn to pray in Latin.
Hope that helps, God Bless!

Well lets face it, Latin is not the easiest language to learn. That’s just a hunch of mine.
LOL
I am not Catholic either, but I think they changed the style of the mass also and made it less elaborate. I really do not notice much difference between the current Catholic mass in English and a standard Episcopal service.
The current pope and his merry band of whatevers seek to destroy the ancient rite of worship and force upon all a rite which is tepid and subject to great abuse. The Latin Rite and its Canon have been with us for many centuries, it is humble and worshipful and peaceful with profound periods of silence. It was the rite of the entire Church until 1970, Francis and his minions want to stop it because it is God centered. Latin has been our liturgical language for centuries, it is a dead language so the real meanings of words can never change. It is easy to worship in Latin since in your missal has parallel Latin/English pages. All the psalms and Bible readings used become very familiar to you this way. And, yes, the devil hates Latin.
God understands Latin no problem. Whether you understand it directly (rather then following a Latin-English missal) is of minimal importance. Most of the Mass addresses God, not you. Non-Catholics hear “Latin Mass” and think it’s all about the language. It isn’t. It’s about the liturgy (and liturgical details) that served God well for over a thousand years. Who would think to change that but Satan himself?
Sounds like the Pope needs a crack force of specially trained assault priests to stop this trade in Latin masses and services.
By the way, what is the basic price for an indulgence these days? Can I purchase one from my local priest or do I need to see a Bishop or Cardinal? Does the Pope sell indulgence franchises?
The Latin Mass tends to demonstrate better that Christ is present in the Eucharist; it wouldn’t be handled by “civilians” the way it is in the new Mass (the language itself is secondary to the rest). The Pope and many of the architects of the Second Vatican Council were determined to move the Church into line with Protestant denominations, so they designed a service that would resemble theirs - and at the same time introduced such concepts as non-priests handling the Eucharist, no more mention of Hell or sin, etc.. Now the Catholic churches are as empty as the Protestant ones; in my area the latter are often bought or rented by Latino evangelical groups (the “replacement Christians” as well as “replacement Americans”).
Since you are a non-Catholic I would expect that you probably wouldn’t understand what is going on in the Church today with respect to the traditional Latin Mass (TLM). Indeed, most Catholics don’t either.
While the focus of the media and the modern Catholic hierarchy is on the “language” (Latin vs the vernacular such as English), the heart issue has little to do with that. The crux of the matter is that the Catholic Church was co-opted by Modernist forces during the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) in the early 1960’s, and a so-called Conciliar Church grew out of it that is a new religion completely.
Upon the close of Vatican II (1965). that new religion created a New Mass known today as the Novus Ordo Mass. Yes, it is to be said in English in this country, but far more importantly, it is an entirely different Mass. In fact, it was designed after the Protestant Mass drawn up by Thomas Cranmer that envisioned the Mass as a celebration of the Last Supper, in contradistinction to the TLM which is nothing less that a re-creation of Christ’s death on the Cross at Calvary. The TLM and the Novus Ordo Mass are as different as day and night—notwithstanding the fact that one is said in latin and the other in English.
And while a holy priestly organization known as the FSSP (Fraternity of St Peter) is currently permitted to celebrate the TLM (and they do so in a very reverential way), there is every reason to believe that Pope Francis will eventually require that organization to celebrate the Novus Ordo Mass exclusively.
If and/or when that comes to past, one of the few (arguably only) priestly organizations left standing that celebrates the TLM and follows all of the true teachings of the Catholic Church that were extant prior to Vatican II will be the FSSPX (Society of St Pius X) They will continue celebrating the TLM as well as continuing to profess the true teachings of the Catholic Church, notwithstanding any directives to the country from Pope Francis or anyone else.
There's no need for anyone in the congregation to learn Latin; the entire text of the Mass for every day in the year is available in side-by-side translation. That's what a "missal" does. Of course, you learn bits and pieces anyway; it's part of an authentically traditional Catholic culture.
Latin itself is not very hard to learn, compared to a modern living language like German, Spanish, or (one of the worst!) English. The grammar mostly memorizing a lot of rules, which have few-to-no exceptions. (Unlike English ... if the superlative of "full" is "fullest," why isn't the superlative of "good" "goodest," or the superlative of beautiful "beautifullest"? Yeah, hard to learn ...)
