Demonic Foes: My Twenty-Five Years as a Psychiatrist Investigating Possessions, Diabolic Attacks, and the Paranormal (October 6, 2020 release )
Amazon Books ^ | October 6, 2020 | Richard Gallagher M.D

The world’s leading psychiatric authority on demonic possession delves into the hidden world of exorcisms and his own transformation from cynic to believer over the course of his twenty-five-year career.

Successful New York psychiatrist Richard Gallagher was skeptical yet intrigued when a hard-nosed, no-nonsense Catholic priest asked him to examine a woman for a possible exorcism. Meeting her, Gallagher was astonished. The woman’s behavior defied logic. In an instant, she could pinpoint a person’s secret weaknesses. She knew how individuals she’d never known had died, including Gallagher’s own mother, who passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. She spoke fluently in multiple languages, including Latin—but only when she was in a trance.

This was not psychosis, Gallagher concluded. It was, in his scientific estimation, what could only be describe as paranormal ability. The woman wasn’t mentally disturbed—she was possessed. This remarkable case was the first of many that Gallagher would encounter

The Bible says:

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

and - John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

You have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is God.

14 ¶ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 ¶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 ¶ He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. “

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It sounds like you have a spirit not of God; definitely not the Holy Spirit; and another Jesus. The Lord Jesus says there is one way to Heaven, and it is through Him.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Not a sinful human praying for portals to open. The word “portal” is not in the Bible; it is used by occultists.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2 Corinthians 11: 3,4 “ But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

- - - - - - - - - - -

It sounds as though you have been deceived, friend.

What does the Bible say about what you have been doing?

Why wouldn’t you tell the ladies that the only way to Heaven is through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, who can forgive their sins, and reconcile us to God the Father? I am afraid for your own soul here.

I’m a little confused by this account. Either the woman was saved through Jesus Christ, or wasn’t.

In 2016 I was helping a 97 year old woman who was blind and bedridden. She began crying and I asked her why? She replied, “I’m afraid I’m going to hell.” She stopped eating that night and did not eat anything for the next 3 weeks.

By 21 days without food a 97 year old person would usually be dead.

about 14 hrs after her death,...her body was totally flexible, no rigor mortis.

One dubious claim after another.

So the Holy Spirit came upon her in a lower strength of Light and cleansed her soul for 3 weeks before she was pure enough to be in the Light of Heaven. Which is not what Scripture teaches, which is that God purifies the heart by faith, (Acts 10:43; 15:7-9) not making us actually good enough to be with God in this life or RC mythical Purgatory, but that those of effectual faith presently possess eternal life, (1 Jn. 5:13) being made "accepted in the Beloved" (Eph. 1:6) on Christ's account, living effectual Abrahamic-type faith being counted for righteousness, (Rm. 4:5) and made to spiritually positionally sit with Him in Heaven (Eph. 2:6) as souls washed, sanctified and justified (1 Co. 6:11) and having access into the holy of holies in Heaven thru the sinless shed blood of Christ. (Heb. 10:19) And that if they die in faith (which Scripture warns against damnably departing from: Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; 6:1-8; 10:26-39)

And that wherever Scripture clearly speak of the next conscious reality for believers after this life then it is with the Lord, (Lk. 23:43 [cf. 2Cor. 12:4; Rv. 2:7]; Phil 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8 [“we”]; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17

And rather than Purgatory conforming souls to Christ to inherit the kingdom of God, the next transformative experience that is manifestly taught is that of being made like Christ in the resurrection. (1Jn. 3:2; Rm. 8:23; 1Co 15:53,54; 2Co. 2-4) At which time is the judgment seat of Christ And which is the only suffering after this life, which does not begin at death, but awaits the Lord's return, (1 Corinthians 4:5; 2 Timothy. 4:1,8; Revelation 11:18; Matthew 25:31-46; 1 Peter 1:7; 5:4) and is the suffering of the loss of rewards (and the Lord's displeasure!) due to the manner of material one built the church with. But which one is saved despite the loss of such, not because of. (1 Corinthians 3:8ff (Note also that the tradition-based Eastern Orthodox reject RC Purgatory, among some other substantial RC distinctives  )

I do believe people can be demon possessed, and in Divine healing, but I find your accounts to be dubious, and your theology poisoned with Catholic heresy.

I hear and agree with most of what you say. I only ask

“Did Jesus ever teach the “Just War” concept?

I don’t think He did? But I reserve the right to be wrong.

An adult person can clearly understand that they are a sinner in need of a Savior and that they can see themselves as unworthy to enter into eternal life.
What baby (or severely mentally retarded person), can know that they are in a sinful state and that they are separated from God by their sins?

When King David's baby dies, David knew with certainty where the baby would go because he said in 2 Samuel 12:23 that:
“now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.

David had the assurance of his own future in heaven, but also the assurance that his child would share that future. knew that his baby would be in heaven waiting for him.

BTW - I am no stranger to spiritual warfare, having engaged in battle in prisons, half-way houses, drug rehabs, and abortion mills. I have seen ungodly things, and miraculous things.

Your skepticism is shared by me, that is why I spent 20+ years studying neuroscience to understand the anatomy & physiology of the spiritual awakening process.

You read and cite scriptures but do not embrace and experience them.

You can read a thousand books on how to ride a bicycle, but not understand the process until you get on and ride. Your intellectual words are like the Pharisees prayers. I don’t mean to criticize, but to motivate you to experience that which you read and study.

The Bible is accurate. Your interpretation is not.

I answer with Jesus’ words.

Would Satan cast out Satan? A house divided against itself will not stand.

“Curious. He has no spiritual beliefs?”

Oh no, he’s a Presbyterian. I’m a Presbyterian now too, that was a big change for me. Hubby was joking a bit when he said that, of course, but there was some truth in it too.

I am a bit in tune with the unseen world, I think. But just a wee bit. I know enough to not mess around with it, that’s for sure.

“world’s leading psychiatric authority on demonic possession”

I “psychiatric authority” is a bit of a contradiction in terms.

Crazy is crazy.

The “devil” is in us all. We dont really need to invent “demonic possession” when humans have enough evil in them as part of our nature.

Possession is fake. It’s an attempt to excuse and a proxy for the evil within us. Exorcism is an elaborate fakery.

I post the following excellent question received by private message.

“When you said, “I turned to Michael and said. “There he is. You can get him.” Michael replied, “It’s not time yet.””

Did Michael reply to you audibly, in an internal voice (which was clearly not your own), or did you have an overwhelming sense that such was his response?

I ask because I am working hard to make sure I hear what the Lord and His Messengers are saying and to make sure I am proceeding correctly (and not coloring what I hear with my own imagination).

My reply.... first, your concern is legitimate. I recently helped a famous person who wrote several books and lectured frequently on messages he received from Jesus. When he finally realized that the voice was an imitator spirit, he ended up devastated and in the hospital for an extended period.

Learning discernment is most important. The evil imitators are very good at faking that they are of the Light.

Nothing is more important than your own spiritual growth. Always focus on your own self first and growing in Christ. If you do not do this, it’s dangerous.

Secondly, evil cannot imitate Love. Love is of God. When you feel the Loving Radiance of God, you can always trust the accompanying message. (Not human love though)

When you are born again, you begin to perceive directly from your consciousness external to your physical body. It is the awakening spoken of in the Bible as we have been asleep. (Such as in Matthew 13 when the enemy planted the weed seeds).

Jesus was teaching us how to transcend self. Everything he taught was toward this goal. This is how you do the things He did and more. This is how you experience Jesus at all times. Like the lightning in the east is seen in the west, you see the messiah.

Use the Bible as your guide book. It is the truth.

Ask the Holy Spirit into you. Keep asking and give gratitude always to God for sharing it with you. It is your protection and the source of your strength and discernment. The greatest sin is to reject the Holy Spirit as it will guide you to Jesus and God.

So in answer to your question, I hear physically and through an all knowing experience. You learn to recognize the radiance of different angels just as you know different people by the sound of their voices..

As long as you radiate God’s Love,, you are protected.. if in doubt,, radiate more Live and your enemies will flee.

Many people doubt the transcendent perception, so I demonstrate it by telling strangers of events in their lives. Or I will walk many feet from them and touch a sin in their soul and it knocks them off their feet.

Or I have them imagine a large object in the room and I will walk over to it. I feel their thoughts manifest. They are physical to me. But not them.

Thanks. This sounds interesting.

From what little I know about Catholic exorcisms, I know that the church requires the subject to be screen for medical and psychological causes of their behavior, so it will be interesting to read about the experiences of one of these screeners.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

I’m honestly not seeing sound doctrine displayed in your account. Golden cleansing swirls by the spirit? How does this square with direct words from the Lord in John 14:1-6?

1“Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4“And you know the way where I am going.” 5Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.

First, just prior to that Paul states that “I do not love you.” If he says he loves God but does not love his neighbor, he is a liar.

Second, “whose end will be according to their works.” is a very true statement.

I will say no more on this except that only a person blind of spirit cannot see and feel the difference between the darkness of Satan and the Light of God.

God showed me how Satan imitates the Light. I spent many years traveling and visiting many churches and observing. If a pastor is connected, I see the Light shine upon them and their words flowing into them. That doesn’t exist in the fakes.

First, Paul does not state “I do not love you.” just prior to that statement. He asks a rhetorical question during the writing of a letter to the Corinthian church, the second of two. Here is the text of verse 1-13.

“1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. 6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things. 7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. 9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

You are twisting Scripture. Verse 13 describes you.

Get thee behind me, Satan. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I rebuke you and all your underlings whatever evil entity is writing this thread. You are a liar and the father of lies. I rebuke you, in Jesus’ Name.
